I was wondering if anybody knew if hosting providers throttle the speed at which things are downloaded at. Seems like my pages download at a slower rate. I'm on DSL and I get ping times of in the 40 to 50 ms range.

Matt Lightner 11-07-2001, 08:33 PM Tae, Are you suggesting that the reason for your high ping times is because your provider is throttling? Usually throttling is done on a service-by-service basis (I.E. throttling within Apache itself, or throttling for certain protocols). If you are thinking that the entire connection is just sluggish, it might be somewhere else between you and the provider, or they could have a capped line and may be over their bandwidth limit - which would cause noticeable slowdown. Matt mlightner@site5.com tae4 11-07-2001, 11:10 PM I get great ping times. But when I view my website, I notice that the page doesnt load as fast as. On my old provider the page loaded faster. Also, I did some tests and I downloaded a large file the web page and it downloaded at around 35k. I'm wondering if anybody has experience with host providers that limited speeds. |
