hehe.. yup, i'm going to order a new box over the next few days. i'm doing some reading on here.. weighing out servermatrix vs. managed.com.

from what i can tell on here, managed.com is cheaper and has better packages... and servermatrix has better support.

now, what if i go with the bigger, cheaper managed.com and get some server management through acunett or elsewhere?

you'll probably think i've been drinking, but i've never really had any problems with CIHost. i've had a server with them for 3 years with VERY few problems over the past year and a half. my server is never down and rarely lags. i've had good support experience. heck... they even give support to my clients most of the time.

my only problems with them are:

1. for such a big "state of the art" company, they are about 2 or more years behind the times in terms of software and hardware. (most of their free scripts have 1996 - 1998 copyrights)
2. no subdomains with name-based hosting.
3. no plesk, cpanel or ensim.

for me, those 3 issues are now bigger than the good as my hosting company grows. not having a good control panel is a real pain in the arse for hosting.

anyway.. i'm enjoying these forums and getting "the scoop" on lots of shiznit.

Welcome to the forums! All I can say is that different hosts are for different people. It all depends upon the priority you place on support, connectivity, pricing, etc.

Usually though, you get what you pay for. Don't forget to use the search feature here and you'll get tons of threads for just about any company. Good luck!

From what I understand, those who have their servers in managed.com faced downtime not because of software failure but network outage. I'm afraid a server administrator can't control network outage, am I right to say so?

Anyways, I would recommend you to try SM. Don't take any risk on your customers.

Thanks.

i am with managed.com ,no down times here (since they finished the move into XO lines).

Fast support , even in non work days ,reboots takes to them up to 5-10 minutes. i think managed is great now.

Some people think it’s great, some people think managed.com is the worst provider in the world. Either way, Server Matrix has a much better reputation. Server Matrix is more costly, but I think you’ll find yourself a happier person on the SM network.

Also, you mentioned a server admin, do you need your server managed for you?

$20/month is worth it for being able to sleep at night. Go with ServerMatrix.
