View Full Version : Dedicated IP Addresses
mwandrei 10-16-2000, 03:45 PM In my long search for the perfect hosting account I have encountered few hosts who don't offer dedicated IP addresses. I'm leaning heavily toward http://www.tvcnet.com right now. They offer everything else that I need (and then some), but they don't offer dedicated IPs. I guess I don't fully understand the pros and cons of this or the affect it would have on my sites.
Can anyone offer some advice? Thanks!

Many people don't offer static IP addresses because they offer virtual domain hosting.
I guess you should just ask yourself whether you need a dedicated IP address or not. If you can't think of a reason to have one then you probably don't. :-)

Duster 10-16-2000, 05:06 PM This particular discussion should help.

Except for a very few specific instances where a dedicated IP address is required, there are no substantial differences between dedicated and shared IP addresses.
mwandrei 10-17-2000, 12:15 AM Duster,
Thanks for posting the link to that thread. It was very helpful. I searched the past posts and somehow I missed that one.
I guess I can't really think of a reason that I would need a dedicated IP. Thanks for helping me make this decision!

Duster 10-17-2000, 12:46 AM You're welcome. I remembered that we had a pretty thorough discussion on the subject fairly recently, and thought it might help.
Now, where's that Chicken Death Squad when you need it?
Mybizhosting,
Please refrain from posting advertisements in this forum. Although relevant to the topic, it is in breach of the guidelines as set out at http://www.webhostlink.com/announcement.php?forumid=1
Thank you for your co-operation.
P.S. Duster, don't be so impatient :D j/k
Give them a chance to right their wrong. Or something like that.
They always have the opportunity to delete their post if necessary... My post is more a prompt/reminder to observe the rules, nothing more. It's when repeated ads occur that things can start to get a wee bit nasty....
I should of mantioned that I was directing my post towards duster.
Chicken 10-17-2000, 09:59 AM Though it may *seem* like I never leave here, that was posted at 3:30am my time, and I *do* sleep sometimes :)
There are many hosts that offer dedicated IPs though it isn't something that is needed. Many people just feel more comfortable with one...

Duster 10-17-2000, 11:01 AM Chicken,
I came across this last night, I thought you'd enjoy it.

BC,
There was no impatience in what I said, or I wouldn't have said it humorously. Youre reading a bit too much into my statement.
JTY,
See BC's remark about deletion. It is incumbent upon each person to read and follow the rules for any newsgroup and forum they decide to participate in. The mistake made with an inappropriate post could easily be corrected by deleting said post. Myybiz has still not chosen to correct something that should never have been posted, so there has been ample opportunity to make that correction. In other words, they have had their chance and have since it was posted. :P
Chicken 10-17-2000, 06:00 PM Thankx Duster! I am acutally looking for a small chicken gif of some sort for a vBull that I'm going to put up on my personal site. Not sure if that is the one, but if anyone runs across something...
Duster,
See my note re : :D j/k ;)
(don't worry, I never take things too literally, and I perfectly understood where you were coming from :))
