View Full Version : Bandwidth Issues, New Host Needed

First off, I've spent the past hour going through these forums and I am ecstatic I found this forum. It helped me a lot.

I've been with HostRocket now for a few months and I don't really have any complaints other than the downtime, and the disk usage in the control panel is always inaccurate and increases daily without me doing a thing. I have to send in a trouble ticket to get it reset because this past time, it was off by close to 100MB.

Now my issue is my bandwidth. Apparently, I've generated 11GB in transfer since the 1st of this month (November). My monthly limit is 15. I don't see how that's possible as I don't run a particularly popular or well known site. I'm not sure if it's inaccurate like the disk usage or if it's correct but either way, apparently HostRocket isn't the host for me since it doesn't offer anything over 15GB a month. I've noticed an increase in visits since the World Series but 11GB equals my total transfer for October.

I don't anticipate monster traffic and I don't think I'll be needing anything huge but I don't want to run into this problem again. Any recommendations? So far I've been leaning toward Communitech (but that was shot down after reading posts here) and SmartHosting.com.

Again, I want to stress I do not have a problem with HostRocket. If they offered another package with more transfer, I'd gladly stick with them.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Scorepo,

Did you check with HR whether can they custom a plan for you since you don't have any problem or complaint about them?

Just my thought ;)

No, I didn't. They haven't responded to me yet because I'm questioning them. On Monday, I was at 9GB of transfer. Yesterday when I wrote this topic, I was up to 11GB. In one day 2 GB of transfer?? No way. So when I sent in a trouble ticket asking how much was extra bandwidth and how to upgrade, I got three responses in a matter of 15 minutes. Now that I'm questioning it, I have no response.

Plus now, they've changed their packages. I have 350MB of space in their cheapest package with 15GB of transfer and now they have it set up where their most expensive package has 400MB of space and 15GB of transfer. I'm not willing to pay double what their most expensive package is for 30GB of bandwidth. That'd be over $60 a month. And I'm not even sure I need it.

The increase in disk space usage could be due to your web logs, since with that much transferred you must have a lot of hits as well. Just a guess.

I don't think it's easy to create a custom package centered around just more bandwidth, because I believe bandwidth is the most expensive of the "features." Giving you more disk space or things like that is a lot cheaper than bandwidth.
