I was wondering, and I haven't looked into this at all, but is it possible to run an NNTP server on a Raq?
I was thinking of doing this vs. running a VBulletin for various reasons, one being a very slight reduction in bandwidth. ;)
Another would be privacy, as I could run the server and only tell folks that were people that I'd want involved.
Anybody here try this?
Yep this works. I use DNEWS on my RaQ4i
I do not recommend using nntp unless you already have quite a bit of knowledge on admining it, as there are quite a lot of setting that hav to be changed to make it run on the raq.
If I were you, I'd stick with VBull, but set the forums to restricted access only, or htaccess th folder it's in. The only reason I use nntp is because my company requires it to get news feeds from outside newsgroups.
Kind Regards,

Thanks for the warning on doing nntp on a raq.
I'll still probably play with it anywho. I've always wanted to run a private news server on my web sites. Bandwidth is zilch and it gets the job done.
Well, it gets the job done if you get it working.. huh? ;)
Try to find a web hosting service that offers private nntp or allows you to run an nntp server. I think I saw one in 1962... It's kind of interesting that nobody offers news servers. It would be an interesting value-added goodie for some enterprising hosting service.
Great!
Nice to see ya got the motivation to do it. You should never go into anything half heartedly. Anyhow, if you need some help setting it up or whatever, drop me an email and I'll talk you through it.

I appreciate your offer. It's going to be a spell before I get to give it a shot. I just got my raq a week ago and I'm still moving data over to it and setting up scripts. The nnpt is going to be fun!
Thanks again.
