I am looking to buy a switch to plug all my servers into. I am looking at a cisco 2924 en xl for about 1,200 or an Intel 460T 24Port. I would like feedback on these or other switches. I prefer a switch that I can throttle the ports other then the 10/100Mbit most do. I am not sure if these do that either, but Ive seen people mention that cisco 2924 is top stuff.
Suggestions please
Thanks.
Also forgot to mention I need to be able to generate mrtg graphs for each port and have a count of usage per port off the switch.

We wouldn't touch anything else but...EXTREMELY reliable...managable...mrtg graphs...etc...
Not sure on bandwidth limiting though, I don't think so...most switches will not do that unless you spend ALOT of money on one...
Easier just to get a bandwidth limiting box for your whole network...
A good one can be found at:

We've had good luck with IBM switches (they're actually made by 3Com, but tend to be cheaper than the 3Com model that does the same thing). If you're looking for a best bang for your buck, you might want to check out a Samsung (made by D-Link)... I believe it is $599 for a 24-port managed switch.

If you need less than 24 ports, the HP 2524 is a great switch! It's got a large backplane, very reliable, inexpensive, easy to use, and more.....

I'd pick cisco all the way and stay away from 3com switch.

We've just purchased a Cisco 2924 XL EN, so I'll try and remember to post back and let you know what I think once it's installed and setup.

Does anyone know about Alcatel/Xylan switches? Are they any good?

You might also want to look at a Cisco 2950T; the 2950 series is the successor to the 2924. You can get a new one for about $1500 at Computers4Sure.com. There's some information about the differences between the two series here: http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/si/casi/ca2900xl/prodlit/1421_pp.htm

I just purchased a cisco catalyst 2924-xl-en switch.
Right now I am trying to figure out the commands to use it ( assign ip).
