Hello,

I'm launching a new project in a month or two and I'd really like to hear people's opinions about it.

The site's name is HostVelocity and it will be located at http://hostvelocity.com but at the moment, you can only access it at:

http://echodev.com/HV/

The site is 90% done so I'd appreciate everybody's comments. I'd also like to hear what you think about the whole business idea (please read the About :: How Do We Do It section for more info).

That's about it...

Thanks
Boris
p.s. Please also tell me your modem speed and the loading time

The site isn't that bad. It looks great under Netscape in Linux. It is a pretty good design, and the content didn't look bad either. I read a few paragraphs and it all seemed pretty good.

I am on a DSL right now, and it loaded up pretty quick. The site has a nice effect. Overall, I'd rate it pretty good. Keep up the good work! :)

it's not bad, but it bares an incredible resemblance to next generation hostin website http://www.nghosting.com

I think only the background is the same between those two. Other than that I couldn't find any resemblance to http://www.nghosting.com at all. You can't blame anyone for the background color though or else we would all be in trouble for using white!

Jaguar ...

I/m not saying they are identical, but very similar, due to the fact both have the same colors and rounded egdes ... they just make you feel you are still in the same website.

Looks good, but I'm curious as to how you are going to support clients on such a low cost after the first 6-9 months of that client being with you?

(Yes I know its a nice veering off course but I couldn't resist asking)

Nice site Boris. Not bad. :)

I suppose you got your server from Daniel (Ultraspeed)? The server specifications are almost the same as the dedicated server their offering right now (special offer). :)

Well, Daniel, I think he can afford to offer that package. I did some calculation here.

The hosting account price
$179 (annual price) - $9 (domain name) = $170

Monthly price
$170 / 12 months = $14

Please correct me if I did any mistakes in the calculation.

So, 100mb diskspace + 1GB bandwidth for approx. $14 per month. Would that cost much? I don't so. he can actually earn more. I think you'll offer around at only $3-5 per month for your resellers if they're asking for this package. :)

Just my $0.02 opinions. No offend intended. :)

Thank you.

Hmm true, but what about after the first year or year and a half when that person's $ runs out. I suppose if you keep enough signups coming in the door it could work. :)

Hi,

Actually, in our terms of service we will specify that the contract is only for 10 years (after that, you can purchase another ten years with a 5% discount from our normal price) which I think all of you will find very fair.

All right, here is how it's going to work:

- When I first started thinking of creating a web host, I wanted it to be different from others so I decided that I will only charge our customers $1/month with every year prepaid ahead (+$10 setup fee). This would attract a lot of customers and since we planned on housing about 1,000 users on a server (we leased extremely powerful servers with 30+ GIGs of space and 100s GIGs of bandwidth) we could've paid off the server/support easily.

Now, we decided to change our business plan to one-time setup fee. First of all, we would get a little more money:

$12/year x 10 years + $10/setup: $130 ($49 difference)

Keep in mind that if we'd follow the first plan, most of our customers wouldn't stay with us that long (maybe a year or two and then moved on to a more powerful host) so this way is a lot more profitable for us.

Secondof all, it's easier to find 1 client than 10 even though we'd charge 10x more.

And third of all is that when many people pays upfront, we get enough money to invest into stocks or realty which is what we are going to do to pay off everything.

- In addition, we will offer free domains with each account (1 year) and every year after that it would cost $25 (cheaper than NetSol) so we'd make about $15/year/client which is MORE than enough to pay for the server costs and support.

- Also, if our customers need more space/bandwidth/pop, they can purchase it for a very low fee on a monthly basis.

Overall, currently we have over $40,000 for this project right now so rest assured that even if we won't make a lot of profit at first, we can easily continue offering this hosting without any price changes.

Anything else?
Boris
p.s. If anyone is interested in pre-signing up, please contact me :)

p.s.s. We are not leasing a server(s) from US USA but we do use one of the VDI resellers.

p.s.s.s. We have ordered this design from a respectable design company. I will talk to them about the NGHosting, but I really doubt that they stole the design from them...

Great load time on my 56k, great design, everything's readable. One thing that you might want to do is make sure you specify per month on the transfer. At first look it seems like a person gets 1,000 MB/transfer period.

will do...

First I want to get a couple of more suggestions and then this weekend I will consider all of them and change some things on the site...

hmm...

The left side of your web site has a black border, other one doesn't.
Also, there is too much space between you bottom nav. and the copyright mark.

Overall, it looks good, but I suggest to add some images of biz people, or graphics. It might spice it up a little :)

Wish you the best of luck... but do be very very very careful about investing in the above. You could be asking for a lot of trouble as this directly leaves you in a very dicey situation.

But from the looks of it, it appears you have thought this out already :)

Bogdan: We made it that way

Hey Boris,

I think the overall design looks great. Yes, the colors are sorta close to mine, but to tell you truth, I don't mind at all. :)

I really like your logo with that tornado-like thing at the top...tell your web designer they did a great job, and not to worry about the similarities between our sites.

I wish you best of luck to you and your company.

Thanks for clearing that out.

But I'm still curios...
Why did you make it that way? :)

the better question would be "why not"?

Heh...

It's of course your business, but it looks to me like it's out of the tables.

Just my 2 cents.

I'll talk to our designer about this matter.

Anybody else?

Sorry,

This is my third reply to website review topics, and the third time that I haven't liked the website. But I rarely like anything unless it's something better than I can do, anything worse than my stuff I tend to disagree with - so sorry, but it lacks a few things.

Regards,

Stuart Wright

It's the shadow of the white space. Light source is down and slightly right, and thus shadow is above and slightly left.

I like your site, Echo. I agree with whoever said it could use a photo or 2 for spice. People are nice, but maybe even a server or something. A piece of reality to mix with it's cartoon feel. You loaded at 15 sec tops at 28.8k.

BTW, Stuart, don't be such a megalomaniac. Your site took 45+ seconds to load at 28.8k and I found it cluttered. I'm not flaming, just calling it as I see it.

Please actually elaborate on why you dislike the reviewee's site, instead of saying flat out that you don't like it. Reviewees and others wish to benefit from other's perspectives, instead of relying on one-lined comments. Everyone's entitled to an opinion, but it's always the devil in the detail we want.

For reference, please see http://www.webhostlink.com/showthread.php?threadid=2411

Thank you for your co-operation.

It looks good and downloads fast. I also like the way you lay out your info-easily navigable. On the About page I suggest you polish up the language even further and make it more business like e.g you could replace this "HostVelocity has a very different business plan that most of the other hosts do. Unlike other hosts that charge $20-50/month for their web hosting, we wanted to take out monthy charges out of hosting business. HostVelocity offers great, reliable web hosting for only $179 with no monthly fees. We realize that this may sound very "unbelievable", but in reality it's not." with: "Onlike other hosts that charge $20-50/mo for web hosting, our unique business model allows us to provide you great reliable service for only 179....."
I general I like your site. Good luck
