What do you have to fill as DNS server for you nameserver?
if you register yourdomain.com for nameserver what is the DNS server for yourdomain.com do you have to leave it black or piont i to itself ns1.yourdomain.com

You would point it to yourself, ie the nameservers that you just registetred, usually ns1,yourdomain.com & ns2.yourdomains.com

Hi, I just figured that I'd add this to this post...

EV1Servers - http://www.ev1servers.com

1. Go to https://domains.ev1servers.net/cgi-bin/manage.cgi

2. Login

3. Click "Name Servers"

4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, click "If you want to create or modify a nameserver which is based on YOURDOMAIN.COM click here."

5. Scroll down to "Create Name Server"

6. Enter NS1 in the "Server Hostname" Box which is followed by YOURDOMAIN.COM

7. Enter the IP Address given for NS1 in the "Server IP Address" Box

8. Click "Create Name Server"

Repeat steps 5-8 for NS2

Okay, this is useful, however, one thing I notice about Namecheap is the lack of being able to make custom nameserver prefixes.

i.e. CUTENAME.SOME-NAME.COM
BADNAME.SOME-NAME.COM

It's just the standard, plain vanilla "dns1". Or, am I missing something?

On most domain registrars custom nameservers are as simple as "create prefixes, specify IP and press create". Most registrars have the same procedure but with slight variation.

Good stuff, most of the registrars allow you create you own name servers and some i think don't allow. You can also do this on you web hosting account on you control panel too. But is easy for you do this at domain registrars and they give clear steps and you need not worry much about technical details. :-)
