Do you guys give your dedicated server clients root access? They do want it and i think they should have it but i run into problems sometimes when the server happens to crash and boots into linux single mode. It asks for root password and wants you to run fsck. What do you guys do?
Right now my solution is create a admin user and give him uid 0 and hope he doesnt do passwd root and change the root pass.

We allow root access to dedicated servers, but ask the client to keep the current root password on file with us. If they don't... well, then they're out of luck if something goes wrong.

You can usually shut the machine down and force the fsck on reboot, but it is faster if you have the root password. Asking them to keep it on file isn't a bad idea as long as it doesn't create problems.

well most people would be pretty off-put if they didn't get root with their box.. :) If they go and change it and decide not to let you know what it is, then they're on their own when it goes pear-shaped...
It's generally just a case of common sense prevailing :)
