View Full Version : Plan Prices
PhatHosts 11-04-2001, 10:18 PM Hello,
I started a web hosting company and bought a reseller package with SplashHost.com. My reseller plan provides me with 15GB of transfer per month and 1.5GB of space. Here are the basics to the plans I am going to have.
100MB Plan with 2GB transfer
200MB Plan with 3GB transfer
300MB plan with 4GB trasnfer
How am I going to compete with all these companys that give you a 100MB account and 4-8GB transfer per month for the same price. I would do that also but I only have 15GB of transfer. I also had another question, say all my customers ordered the 100MB plan. How many customers do you think I could host with the reseller package I have? I know I could host 15 customers that each have 100MB accounts which would equal 1.5GB of space. But then there is another problem. Each customer with the 100MB plan is givin 2GB transfer. 2GB Transfer X 15 customers = 30GB of transfer a month! I only have 15GB transfer! I know most clients wont use that much but im just trying to be safe. If I drop each plan down by 1GB transfer per month then I would be safe but it would also be stupid as they are low compared to most companys already. Any input would be apperciated.

kmb999 11-04-2001, 10:41 PM It's probably not worth making an entire hosting site for 10-15 customers, you could just offer your plans to people in the requests forum.
Or, maybe you could offer some special x-small plans. Something like 15MB space, 250MB bandwidth/month, etc. After all, it's the smallest plans that usually sell the best.

PhatHosts 11-04-2001, 10:47 PM Im not making it for 10-15 customers. I plan to expand. This is just to start out. I will work my way up to the highest reseller plan and then get a dedicated server. No I dont want to offer xtra small plans. Maybe there is some reseller out there that has the same restrictions on bandwidth and space I have. I want to know how they are getting around it. Thanks.

Offer good support :) What do you prefer?
- 10 customers that don't generate revenue because you're overselling.
- 5 customers that generate revenue because you're offering realistic packages.
PhatHosts 11-04-2001, 11:18 PM I rather do the second option. How are there sucessfull resellers out there with these kind of limitations? Having 5 customers on my reseller plan wouldnt even pay for it.
One Web 11-04-2001, 11:21 PM lil off subject. looking at your site on a artistic way (not a marketing way) I like it. its really nice and simple. its just white with black letters. i think i should make my homepage like that. Now i think that you should get a lil design in it (talking in the marketing aspect now). thats all it needs. other that its right to the point... sorry to get out of track...back to the original subject now

Do you have the option purchasing more GBs in transfer? That may be an option for you...
You could also locate a hosting company that offers reseller plans but doesn't limit "you" to a certain amount of space and/or GBs of transfer.
Hope I gave some good insight.
mantra 11-13-2001, 06:33 PM yeah, I always wondered how you can offer decent plans with only 15 GB transfer. Most of these resellers offer plans with 10-15 GB transfer and you have the option to purchase more transfer for extra (usually $3-5/GB)
How does anyone expect you to make any money this way?
You wanna offer decent plans for decent prices, but you are limited to the space on your reseller plan.
I looked at many reseller plans for months and decided to go with one that offers ready-to-go plans for a low price instead of one big plan.
I hope this works out for me.
I wish you the best.

cactus 11-14-2001, 01:51 AM I have a reseller account with splashhost. I do web designing for clients in my local area and it's some sort of a package deal for them(Designing,webspace,domain name included in package) so I don't have a problem.
<off-topic>
Hehe, I have 2 corporate clients and charging them $1,500 per annum(password protect area for members & small private forum) and my goal is to get at least 20 more big clients. For small sites with 5-10 pages I usually charge $400 and have 15 client so far and hope to increase to 100 as soon as I can recruit some sales staff.
</off-topic>
Besides web designing I also advertise in local newspapers,technical colleges in my local area, word of mouth to friends, to get new clients and offering them small space such as 25mb/1gb
Anyway, I am not worried, with splashhost you can always upgrade to a higher level package without any problems if your clients overuse space & bandwidth, that's why I choose splashhost, futhermore I am rest assured of excellent support and experience people like Alan maintaining the server(s) so I don't really need a server of my own. Should my client-base increase unexpectedly hopefully according to my future planning which I have in the works, I will just add another reseller account to accommodate the extra load.

Offer good support
Funny thing happened the other day.
I was speaking with a potential customer. The guy is currently with a webhost that is well known for poor service and lacking support. Infact, the guy admits his site is routinely down 3-4 times a month for several hours! And his emails to tech support go unanswered for days, if ever.
Yet he's reluctant to leave because he felt he was getting a good deal!
The difference between his current host and the plan I was offering him was a mere $5/mo. That's cost of one large Starbucks cappuccino!
Unbelievable.

Maybe you can drop your price $5 and still get him away from the bad hosting company OR drop your price $5 for several months.... something to entice him to change for mere service of hosting his site... then again, it depends on the importance of the site too..
Walter 11-14-2001, 03:02 PM I wouldn't drop the price just to get the customer. He has clearly shown what is more important to him. He preferes bad service and a low price.
you should fill up the accounts you can but keeping in the its quality (moneywise) over quantity..like kiwi said, heh woudl you rather have 10 accounts with no revenue or 5 with lots...heh your choice, and you already know splash host is gonna give ya great support etc.. so its not bad, but hey heh its up tto you..
