ReflexHost_M 11-04-2001, 05:16 PM 50Gb is a lot of transfer - will you *really* be using that amount? There are hosts what will host you with this amount of transfer, however, expect prices to be in the $125+ / month category, most probably. Regards Matt Angel78 11-04-2001, 06:42 PM for a 99 $ mothly you can go with a dedicated from 4webspace.com 10 gb disk 100 gb transfer for ...125 $ is a lot money for a shared account :) ReflexHost_M 11-04-2001, 06:53 PM $125 is a lot for a shared account, but realistically it is what a hosting provider (using non-cogent bandwidth) would have to charge. You can also get Raq's from http://www.rackshack.net for $99 / month with 300Gb transfer. Regards Matt Kilgor 11-04-2001, 07:15 PM Rackshack just doesn't allow adult content :) One Web 11-04-2001, 07:23 PM does Pmd7176 need to host adult content? Pmd7176 11-04-2001, 10:32 PM it's not really for me.. just trying to help a community out. a very treasured radiohead website has been having hosting problems over the past few weeks- their host crapped out on them a couple of days ago. its not too mush since they get about 10,000 unique hits on the homepage a day! its a bit popular.. keep in mind that this needs to be done cheaply, as the owner pays for this out of his own pocket, and has advertisments, and does not solicit donations. this website means a great deal to alot of people. Pmd7176 11-04-2001, 10:33 PM i meant to say that the site is advertisement free :) whoops! Asher S 11-04-2001, 11:11 PM Is it just me or do RaQs suck? I really preffer a Linux box with WHM or Plesk on it rather than a RaQ. bitserve 11-05-2001, 12:46 AM Kyo, it's not just you. RAQs suck. I don't know how many times I've spent hours trying to integrate something with a RAQ control panel because a client wanted something not available in the control panel. They are doing some pretty funky things behind there. Of course I think WHM and Plesk suck too. They do too many things that are just not correct, IMHO. Asher S 11-05-2001, 12:50 AM Well PLESK aint that bad ;) I use it for all my servers, though it sort of does convert a good ol' linux box into a raq wannabe ;) noox 11-05-2001, 06:36 AM I assume you mean 10.000 page impressions per day. Does he host a lot of videos or images on the site? Else 50GB is rather unrealistic: 50 GB / (10.000 * 30) = 166.7 kB per page! Even more, if you assume that static pages and pics are held in the cache. If you assume 50kB per page then you only need 10.000*30*50kB = 15GB per month. If the high traffic comes mainly from pages (not from images, videos or other downloads) he may try compression (mod_gzip) Indian 11-05-2001, 05:57 PM I couldn't find the http://www.rackspace.net plan of 300 GB for $99 Also, I've never used dedicated server, is it hard to set-up?
