Doesn't much matter to me except that there is a bet between some radio DJ's here in Detroit that is riding on it. They'll have to do some funny things if they loose... it's the only reason I'm really paying attention. LOL

Close series though...

the Yankees felt bad for them. They let them win. You all know that D-backs didnt stand a chance.

easy to say they didnt stand a chance, especially AFTER they won.

The DBacks played so much better and this is undeniable

They outscored the yanks by a total of about 38-15

ouch :D!

At the time the World Series was created (can't recall now the year - I'm thinking it was around 1910 but I'm not 100% sure of that - I do, however, know that the first World Series was a best-of-nine game series between the Boston Americans and the Pittsburg Pirates, and Boston won at home at the old Huntington Ave ballpark... erm.... ok, now I'm off topic. Anyway... at the time the World Series was created, the U.S. was the only country in the world that had professional baseball, so they figured it was an ok name. I agree that these days if we want to have a *real* World Series we need to invite teams from all over the world - but really it's just a name.

and canada werent allowed to win;)

Canadian teams are more then welcome to win if Toronto or Montreal could ever field a team good enough to make it to the world series

thanks for the explanation :) in theory could anyone field a team assuming they were good enough? could say london have a pop at it. american football is very popular in england, i know i played it thanks to the nfl europe initative. baseball could be as popular :)

In theory I think that would be possible, but in practice it would probably be much more difficult. As I understand it (and I am by no means an expert, so some of this might not be 100% accurate) Major League Baseball operates as a franchise business. What that means is that each separate ballclub is a franchise of MLB, and the owners of each club have to pay huge fees to MLB in order to participate.

In addition to that, MLB controls how many franchises they allow in each league (there are two leagues in Major League Baseball - the American League and the National League). The owners must approve any sales of existing clubs, and they must approve requests to move clubs to new locations.

So, if you were looking to establish a Major League Baseball franchise in England, there would be a couple ways to go about doing it:

1) Petition the MLB owners group for permission to open a new franchise. This would, quite probably, be denied.

2) Spend the hundreds of millions of dollars it would cost to buy an existing franchise, and cross your fingers that MLB will approve the sale. If they do approve the sale, cross your fingers that MLB will approve moving the team to England. This would, quite probably, also be denied.

And from a simple financial standpoint, it's very unlikely an MLB franchise could ever start up in Europe, at least until transportation is revolutionized to the point where it no longer takes 12 hours or more to fly from the U.S. to Europe. Can you imagine the effects of that severe jetlag on the players trying to play a baseball game at a major league level?

You mentioned NFL Europe. It's important to realize that that is a completely separate league. NFL teams in the U.S. don't compete against NFL teams in Europe (in fact their seasons don't run at the same time). Something like this for baseball could certainly happen - it could be entirely possible that in the future there'd be 3 or 4 leagues within MLB (I could certainly see the National League and American League facing off for the "National Championship" and then facing the winner of the "European League" and the "Asian League" in the World Series. It could certainly happen.)

But I find it very very unlikely that a Europe-based team would ever be accepted into Major League Baseball in it's current form.

thanks for the time jason :) yeah there is baseball at college mosty i think thanks to channel 5 covering it as well as american football (also helped by coverage on c4 in eariler years). very popular in colleges. its a fun sport and its good try try different sports.
i hear what your saying about the francises, and nfl europe. methinks there is room for a european baseball league a whole untapped source of revenue.
