I'm looking at this card: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-342&depa=1

Who here uses the 9600xt? Is it a good card? My GF3 TI-200 works perfectly even on modern games i've tried. I'm thinking of upgrading my card and selling it to a neighbor who might need it. I'm curious how long this card would last as a card to use? I've had my TI-200 for about 3-4 years and it's still lasting me today. I'm also looking for dual outputs for dual monitors so it interests me. Is it worth the price? My TI-200 cost me $120 then, and the TI-200 that was bought for a friend was $90 last year.

It looks like it comes with a free HL2 coupon which is worth $50 and i'm planning to sell mine for around $60.

I have a 9600 XT and I love it!

I really think it's worth the price.

I got stuck with the 9600... or 9600SE, not sure which.

I miss nvidia...

Why don't you like ATI? I personally don't like the new FX's that are out and heard that ATI is gaining a 'comeback'. I've never tried ATI so I am interested in their new cards.

ATI has the better price:performance ratio for mid-budget cards now. nvidia has the advantage for the < $80 cards, and its a constant between them both in the > $200 cards.

I've been using Radeon cards since they first came out. Before getting my ATI 9600 XT I had an AIW 8500DV

I would recommend buying the ATI version though instead of the Sapphire. The term "ultimate Radeon" is also "artificial".

you should get the geforce FX 5900XT...faster than the 9600XT and only a little more expensive:

No thanks. I do not like the "FX" versions. Please read the whole thread before making opinion calls.

I figured as much. It was a little more then the "Bulk" Sapphire one. This is retail.

I have the 9800 pro, sadly bought 1 month before XT came out. All the ATI drivers have been bug-less for me since 3.6

Definately go for ATI over Nvidia, a little while ago Nvidia was found to have tweaked their directx drivers to get better benchmarks...

I have the 9800 Pro 256MB, also bought before the XT came out. Oh well. Excellent card. In my other PC, I have the nVidia GeForce 2 65MB. Not bad, and definitely runs the new games well, also, but you definitely can see the "power" of the new ATIs. I also have a bad opinion about the nVidia FX models. I've seen them at a store, compared with a similarly-priced ATI installed in the exact same computer, software, etc. I found the ATI could run games, like UT2003 and Quake 3 Arena better and smoother.

I've got a TI-300, and still running strong on *every* game I play. :D If you're adamant on getting a new card, I'd go with the 9800XT for the ultimate in performance (for now). But I'm sure the two will be fighting for the lead for many years to come... either maker's most recent offerings are excellent.

O/T... I'd go for the Quadro if I had the money. ;)

Both have done this... nothing new.

From what I hear though the 9600XT is better then the 9800XT... Why?

Maybe overclockable to the same level as 9800XT for less $$...

I received Far Cry today and runs perfect on my system now. It also looks like my neighbor may not need a new card after all as he is no longer having problems. I'll order either the 9600xt or the 9800xt down the road when I need it, and by then the price should be lower.

i did read the whole thread. just cuz you don't like FX doesn't mean you shouldn't consider one. yes, it's not as good as the radeon series, but the fact is, a geforce FX 5900XT is faster than a 9600XT, for $1.50 more.

and IRT to kia's post: that's ridiculous...a 9800XT blows the 9600XT away. and unless you are really rich or something, don't waste money on a 9800XT. get a 9800pro...only a little slower than 9800XT and much less expensive.

i use a 9600xt and have no complaints... overclocks beautifully, plays dx9 games like a dream, and driver support is very good nowadays. waiting for hl2, i have the key for it... it's like knocking $50 off the price of the gpu. pay $180 for ati & hl2, or pay $150 for nvidia and another $50 for hl2... hmm
