Hi,
Our site mainly focuses around hosting and we have a good, solid client base. But I was wondering if it's worth dicersifying into other areas like web design, typesetting, custom software, etc.?
Would it also be worth be setting up another site to offer these services and just have it linked from the main hosting site? I only ask this because the URL and name of the company have the word 'hosting' in them (Which probably isn't as good a idea as it seemed at the time).
Thanks,
David

I guess it depends if you're any good at what you're looking at. Many hosts offer design for example when they shouldn't.
For the most part, if it's a service added into your current site and it's something your company is capable of doing, then why not? It costs little to add things in, and the financial advantages of extra services is probably going to be worth it.
Of course another thing to consider.. Do you have the staff on hand for the extra work? Web Design and Programming are a lot more intensive of your time than hosting is. (per client)

Well, that is quite an option, but it can be done. Most web hosting companies do that nowadays. This is quite true
if you have the right staff and stuff.
At any rate, if you really want to do it and do not have enough resources or shall I say expertise (forgive the word), I suggest you partner with a web design company.
You get a client for them provided that the hosting
will be on your company or you get a percentage of the sales. It depends on your talks.
Try weighing it out. Ok?
And best of luck.
:)
P.S. regarding the domain, I suggest a separate domain be set up for this purpose. Provide a link from your hosting site. Say, "Want to avail of web design services? Find out more".

Thank you both for taking the time to reply.
The partnering idea is one I hadn't considered and I may look into it further since I feel that if I persue the other areas I am interested in developing (Custom software, scripts, etc.) I shall not have enough time to design sites as well.
As for custom scripts, software do you feel this should be set up through another site as well and linked?
Thanks,
David
