Hi, I want to offer a freehost and before I do I want to get as much info as I can so I do it right. I want thinking about clustering but someone recommend me to setup a server farm instead. I want to try and create a super server thats secure.
I want to end up with 20 nodes with dual 1 Ghz cpu and have a super server that will not slow down. I want the server to be able to handle 20 million hits a day =) Freehost take alot of traffic. I might not use many scripts or database software. The servers will mostly server httpd request. Pelase give your input.
Thanks

You're not going to find anyone here who can tell you how to "do it right". Clustering -- under any name -- is not easy when you have state to worry about, and web (file) hosting certainly has lots of state.
The simplest solution would probably be a hetrogenous load balancer/web server/file server cluster, but coming up with the right hardware and software configuration would be both time consuming and difficult.
If you really want to do this, you're going to have to hire someone with experience doing stuff like this -- I'd suggest starting by contacting Penguin Computing or Rackspace.
In my humble opinion clustering sounds like a good idea. It does have issues and may get confusing when mixed with emails/databases/control panels and bla bla bla, but a good and highly used clustering system can be found at:

its advanced, documentation isnt that great, and its alot to handle, but the end results are good :)
