The free host where I uploaded my files deleted.. again and I'm looking for a host where it's ok to upload files.
Paid or free please post the host you know that it's "legal" to host files..
Thanks!

upload via FTP? I think it's harder to track data transfer on FTP ... if you do the upload via httpd, then you will get more offer

cheers,

I don't really care if it's by FTP or by http.
The only thing i'd like to be sure is that they won't delete my files again.. it's annoying I have to change all my links everytime.

if it is legal, I don't see why the host will delete/alter your file  ... How much bandwith do you need and how much are you willing to pay (HD space is cheap, but transfer is the expensive commodity here)? I may be able to help you

cheers,

I'm not sure of how much bandwith I will need..
And I don't have a clue of why they delete my files over and over..
I think they don't like websites with too much files on it

hm ... I must not be thinking when reading your file ... you want to upload your file and then ? I don't think upload can be done through http ... sorry, I must be thinking of download ... Hm ... how would one calculate the transfer involved in uploading files, epsecially if your upload>download (very rare case)?

cheers,

Shurik'n, if your files are legal, you can sign up with any webhost that offers the amount of bandwidth you think you will need and upload all your files there. Then you can point the subdomain http://files.yourdomain.com/ to that host and link your files from your website (i.e. http://files.yourdomain.com/cheat.zip). However, I don't think you can find a "FREE" webhost to host those kind of files, specially if you're using a lot of bandwidth.

Some host add to their terms of use that you can't just use your space as file storage (I wonder why)

Those are probably the hosts that are overselling their bandwidth and don't want a customer that is actually going to use the whole account bandwidth (because they would lose money on that account).

Two reasons: Bandwidth over usage and possibly file serving copyrighted material (hosts don't want to be sued).

I hope to be a file server host, but I've found a market niche that's pretty safe. Perhaps, with scrutiny, I could host such a site in the future -- but -- with strict rules.

It's a shame that all these free sites spoiled folks in unlimited bandwidth and many file types. When outlinking was cut off, then all they could do is host their pages on the free site. Then the free sites sharply or totally cut off MP3s and video (and some other files for security reasons - javascript/java applets, etc). A popular site can also be closed quickly if it uses too much resources, even though on a free site they're bringing in viewers.

Forget free sites and buy some space and bandwidth (bandwidth as promised with options to grow). Save your headaches for your venture, not about "will my files be up today?"
