What is the difference between a RaQ 3, RaQ 3i, RaQ 4 & RaQ 4i aside from the CPU?

Best to check the sun web-site, you can down load the manuals. theseed.org 03-22-2004, 06:26 PM I have read the manuals. What is the differences between a base model and the "i" version? For example 3i, 4i. Is it simply a 2nd ethernet port and built in SCSI or is there something else that I am missing? Is the "r" version hardware RAID or software RAID? Is the only difference between the RaQ3 and the RaQ 4 the OS and the CPU? Will I be missing out on something by buying a RaQ 3 and upgrading the OS, CPU, RAM and Hard Disk? 1stserv 03-23-2004, 04:28 PM Hi, In most models the 3 and 4 are the same hardware and the 3i and 4i are also the same other than the CPU. If you buy a RaQ3 and install a 500mhz cpu you will have a server better than a standard raq4i, other than the PCI port and the SCSI interface. I do not think the USB was ever enabled. Mark lucid 03-23-2004, 05:56 PM Not sure about the raid, both the 3i and 4i I have can be an "r" if you use the right restore disk. theseed.org 03-23-2004, 06:22 PM So then RAID is in software? 1stserv 03-23-2004, 06:30 PM Not all RaQs have the second IDE port but yes you can use a 4r or 550 OS Restore CD and get a raid machine if you have both drives installed. Also if you install the RaQ550 OS you can safely have 80gb drives. Mark theseed.org 03-23-2004, 06:39 PM Does the 550 support RAID on the RaQ3i? Is RAID configured via the web GUI or via command line? 1stserv 03-23-2004, 06:42 PM When the 550 OS is installed on a RaQ with two drives installed it will give you the option of Raid version when you run through the setup via your web browser. To install the 550 OS on a RaQ3/4 you will have to upgrade the ROM version. The OS Restore CD will do this for you but be careful as you can kill the RaQ if you select the wrong options. theseed.org 03-23-2004, 06:51 PM Okay, cool. Finally does a RaQ3 (not RaQ3i or RaQ3r) have support for 2 hard disks? 1stserv 03-23-2004, 06:58 PM Hi, I do not have any RaQ3's on hand at the moment to give a definitive answer but generally they do not have the second port. Most of the RaQ3i's do have the second port (but not all). There was never a RaQ3r as such. If you want info on RaQs we have a searchable archive of Cobalt-User mailing list posts at http://www.1stserv.com/cobaltarchive.html You can usually find answers to most cobalt questions there. Mark |
