Hello!

I have an image I want to use on my homepage. In certain areas I want to have links over certain parts of the image. Are hotspots a good way of doing this? If so, how do you go about inserting them in dreamweaver.

I inserted one in fireworks, saved the image as a png and then opened ii in dreamweaver. But when i previewed it in the browser, the hand icon did not appear over the hotspot i had previosly inserted??????:confused: :confused:

In DW you can draw your hotspot for your
image map. Select your image and then a toolbar should pop up on the preferences for this.

So am i right in thinking that you dont need to edit the image in fireworks first (or alternative).

You can edit it to make it look the way you want, but the actual image map coding can be done in DW.

Apologies for my utter display of incompetence, but when you refer to the image map coding, does that refer to the placement/insertion of a hotspot itself??

The image map is what you are making from your image. The links you are coding on the image is what makes the image map usable. The hotspot is where the link is located.

Great. So...and bear with me now, I open a new document in DW, set the image as the background in page properties.....and then.....do i draw an area as a hotspot?? EEEkkk!!! I'm such an ametuer!

Insert your image and then select it. You can then draw your hotspots. There should be a tutorial or help information for this in the DW menu or on the DW site.

hmm, I use frontpage to draw my imagemaps. =)

Thankyou again one and all!! I have managed to sort the hotspots out, all i need to do is compile the composite image in photoshop/fireworks and things will be ready to rock and roll!!
