View Full Version : Maybe a new host required.
-Edward- 10-14-2000, 10:04 AM Hello,
I'm seriously considering moving from http://www.tera-byte.com. I know this is only a minor blip on there part but it is very unprofessional. They shut my friends site down saying she did not pay when she had paid for the year and she had the proof they cashed the cheque. Now I'm afraid they may do the same to my account, I emailed sales about my account to see if my payment was ok. I looked on my bank statement money withdrawn from account so im guessing they cashed my cheque but I have asked for conformation twice now once yesterday and once a week ago and both times so far the emails have been ignored. I've had autoresponses for both but no follow up e-mail to say my account is safe and when its next due.
So I could be looking for a new host. Does anyone know of a similar host with the stability and hopefully the same price range I could maybe reach to $25 a month for what they provide but with so many hosting accounts with other hosts that's all I can afford. Any ideas.
I need maybe upto 50mb of space. 10 to 15gb of bandwidth.
I've been considering moving the site to can-host since his service seems good and he always helps people.
Chicken 10-14-2000, 12:35 PM Tech, I think it may be a billing error. Physical payments are harder to keep track of, and thus errors are more likely. Did you try calling them? I'm not sure you if you can talk to someone in billing or not, but it might be a quicker way to get confirmation.
Also, is it possible to tie your account to one of those check-cards? They have a via/mc logo on them but are actually just debit cards. I think it would save you a lot of hassle (it's saved me more than once). Or converting money to a web based account (which has credit card number access)?
-Edward- 10-14-2000, 01:11 PM I'd call them but under my phone company it costs me an arm and a leg to phone canada.
I have a debit card but switch is not accepted by american or canadian companys. I don't want a credit card cos i know for a fact i'll get myself into lots of debt lol.
I'll hold out for a few more days then personally email steve i guess. I don't want my account shutting off up until this moment they had been brilliant. i still think the support is good but the billing needs a bit of work :-).
Use 10-10-275 to call Canada like I do from my house. Rate is .06 minute, no other fees. No need to switch carriers.
I have MCI and my rate in the US is 7 cents day and 5 cent n/w for $3.00/mo. Unfortunately, to Canada, they charged me .78/min!! Yikes. So now I use the above mentioned number and everything works out great.
-Edward- 10-14-2000, 02:03 PM You in the uk or america because im in the uk.....
BT is weird ...... They charge you 50p($1) per 30 seconds and about $5 to connect. they even charge you for the ring ring sound isnt that nice :-). My phone bill is big enough without adding that too it.
Have you tried using a net based solution? Or see if they can call you back. Never hurts to try
DanielP 10-14-2000, 04:14 PM Wein.... about MCI, I use them as well, their international is 7cents to canada and 10cents to the UK if you pay an extra $3.00 per month for their international calling. Imagine my suprise when I was led to believe international was included and all my lengthy phone calls to my uk partner.....
Can we say 300 dollar phone bill lol. $1.00 a min to the uK if your not on their international plan hehe.
They promptly credited it down to 10cents a min :).
Chicken 10-14-2000, 05:38 PM Speaking of not being on a plan. I once changed phone companies and they "forgot" to enter a plan. I was a bit shocked when I saw that a call to my sister in New Hampshire cost me $3.17 a minute! Nice eh?
Bogdan 10-14-2000, 08:05 PM Chicken,
How long did you talk with your sister?
Once, my friend got a $400 phone bill from MCI.
He then realized, he was connecting to his ISP dialing to another state. lol...

New Hampshires phones are 2 tin cans and some wire! ROTFL!!
Chicken 10-15-2000, 02:45 AM It was about 45 minutes, somewhere around $150 for the call. I was shocked to say the least. It should have been about $3 for the entire call, NOT per minute! This is why I really hate changing phone companies. AT&T did something like that a few years ago as well. It isn't worth my time on the phone trying to reach customer service to straighten it all out.
Speaking of this... that reminds me of the discussion here about the cheaper phone web sites. I forgot to switch and just got a bill from MCI. I don't have my service there, but still have a toll-free number with them (what a pain it is to switch that sometimes). Bill was $12. $5 for the toll-free number itself and $5 for the small business plan (plus $2 in misc. fees). I've GOT to get that switched.
Website Rob 10-16-2000, 02:53 PM I take it Technics, that you've tried the toll-free number offered by TeraByte: Toll Free: 1-877-TERABYTE (1-877-837-2298)
I agree that Emails responses taking over a week is a sign of problems. Not necessarily everwhere, but Email is a major form a communication with any Hosting company. Another thing is that from a Professional point-of-view, the proper thing would have been to send an Email (or a telephone call) regarding a payment problem. Not sure if this was done with your friend, but think it should have been done first.
Do you really need/use 10GB of Bandwidth? Let me know and I will see what I can do for you.
-Edward- 10-16-2000, 04:13 PM Well we dont normally use that much bandwidth. On average we use about 5 or 6 gbs but i like to have an account with so much just to be on the safe side.

I'd appreciate if you'd leave off that second sentence. The question is fine, but please email him directly if you have something to offer.
