View Full Version : Client Management
TotalHst 11-01-2001, 10:59 PM I was wondering if you guys new of any client management software, such as a script, that would allow us to setup all our clients in a sysem and give them an account number that we can reference to when they call in for help. This would help us manage our clients more efficently, because it would give us what server they have with us, ip address, contact info, etc just by looking it up in this script. Any one know of any script like this? Not so much urbersmith but any else? Thanks for your help!
One Web 11-01-2001, 11:06 PM i think its betta to have someone write it for you because like that you can add what ever you want to it. i was looking for one and never found one to do all the things i needed. so i got someone to write the script for me. i think you can go to elance or something write a proposal and post it there and see what happens...
TotalHst 11-01-2001, 11:11 PM Right.. but that can be costly.. So no one has created a web hosting client manager before? This is all I could fine.. looks nice but costly.

One Web 11-01-2001, 11:21 PM wow that is cheap im paying much more then that for mine...
TotalHst 11-02-2001, 03:39 AM Ubersmith is alot of money a month though... Anyone use any scripts that they could recommend to me?
hoster 11-02-2001, 12:59 PM Take a look at http://modernbill.com it is a great pcs of work and getting better each day.
;)
Jason Ellis 11-02-2001, 01:28 PM If you've got anyone with some coding capabilities, Freeside (http://freeside.sisd.com/) makes a good code base for such a system - but honestly it needs some work to make it suited well to your specific needs (regardless of what your specific needs are). But it's a good, solid code base, which will get you well ahead and save you a lot of money over coding from scratch. And it's free and open source.
NetDotHost 11-02-2001, 01:32 PM I would also like a script like this.
I would like it to be created when the account is setuip by the user... So that all their billing information... their package specs... everything we could posibly know about them is contained in their file..
I do not have the money to pay what most of the places out there will want... at least not at this time.... Modernbill looks great, but that $139 US per server will add up after a bit....
If anyone is interested in working with me on creating one of these/having one created, then please contact me (mike@paradonsolutions.com) if we pool our resources to have one built that we have full rights to, then we may be able to reduce the cost to each of us.
Eladesor 11-02-2001, 05:29 PM I wrote a simple database (access) that maintains everyones details.
When I need to send out details etc.. I just merge into word and email to client.
Might not have lots of 'bells and whistles' but it was free ;)
I have thought about generating some code to wrap it all up into a web site. But to be honest, at the moment its a low priority due to other work.
Eladesor.
magnafix 11-02-2001, 09:59 PM GCDB (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gcdb/) is easy to modify and works fine for us.
It doesn't do any system unix stuff (out of the box anyway), but if you just need something to maintain customer and billing info, it's a nice start.
mahinder 11-03-2001, 05:05 AM i have developed my own system in vb and vf. i will make it online soon. cheers ;)

If you already have some kind of automated sign up process in place, hacking a little extra code in there to put that info into a database should be fairly easy. The only problem would be if you use a 3td party cc processor like revecom where some of the billing info is not entered into you site.

NetDotHost 11-03-2001, 03:02 PM I do not have anything in place at this time.
brandonk 11-03-2001, 11:59 PM I installed GCDB (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gcdb/) after magna's post. But I've found that clients can't use it as a ticketsystem yet, and I have to enter them all in (I can't drop it in from a text file) and I'd have to email them and give them the password and customer ID that it sets up...
Anyone have any easy fixes for this? Too bad they can't use their email address and then a password, then I could make a generic password and send out a generic email. Otherwise GCDB looks like a great thing!
Magic 11-04-2001, 11:57 PM one_web ... have you thought about selling your script? If you set the right price you might get quite a few sales and make back the money you spent on getting it made.
I know i would be interested if it was cheap :)
One Web 11-05-2001, 12:26 AM Well I don’t know how much I can sell it for. But hey if you give me an idea ill think about it.

what are vb and vf ? visual basic / visual foxpro ?
Magic 11-05-2001, 01:18 AM one_web ... i dont have much money ... im only starting in the webhosting business ... so i can only offer you about $50 depending on what it can do (other webhosts may offer you more).
there are two ways to think about it... you paid a lot of money to get that script... are you willing to sell it for only $50?
or
just sell the script to 10 people, and you have all your money back.
muppie 11-05-2001, 01:36 AM I somehow doubt that one_web only paid $500.... I'd say more like $2000 ? *Shrugs*..
