Hey,

I am trying to decide which CPU I choose.
I currently have PIII 660 CPU.

How good is AMD Thunderbird 1Ghz compared to PIII 660? (I know I will need a new motherboard for AMD processors.)

Or anyone can recommend better one with reasonable prices?
Thanks.

It shouldn't make too much of a noticeable difference with those two. If you can upgrade the RAM on the machine, it will be more worth your while.

Well, I think I have enough RAM for a personal computer. I have 448mb of RAM.

I want to notice a little speed difference. (that's why I want to upgrade hehe.)

Sorry, I didn't realize it was for a personal CPU

I presume you mean the P3 650 as the P3 660 doesn't exist...?

Anyway, in regards to upgrading, you should notice a considerable difference. I upgraded from a P3 550 to an Athlon 1Ghz, and the speed increase certainly has been noticeable.

And prices of AMD chips currently are very low, you won't find a quicker or better value processor for your money.

Why not a AMD 1,3 Ghz, they are very cheap now. This way the difference is even bigger.

Ok, could you look at http://www.knowledgemicro.com/detail.php3?name=MB-A7V133C&price=108.90&fullname=Asus+A7V133C+Socket+A/VIA/ATA100/ATX+Motherboard ? I want to see if I can use my PC133 ram on the new motherboard.

It is P3 664. It was P3 660 with win98 SE installed. When I upgraded to winxp, it says P3 664. You don't believe me, do you. heh

Probably a p3 667Mhz then that is slightly underperforming by a few mhz, as Intel did not release a 660 or 664.
