Firefuze 03-20-2004, 01:24 PM Photoshop is the best SimonMc 03-20-2004, 01:37 PM It all depends on what type of graphics you will be designing. If you are designing web sites then I think most here will agree that photoshop is the industry leader. If you are designing logos then photoshop is most certainly not the way to go. If you are designing 3d then photoshop is also not the way to go. So...what type of graphics are you looking to design? Simon Andy_DrU 03-20-2004, 02:13 PM Logos, mainly, and 3d. No interest in web design, so then what would be the ideal program? SimonMc 03-20-2004, 02:26 PM Originally posted by Andy_DrU Logos, mainly, and 3d. No interest in web design, so then what would be the ideal program? Well...for logos I personally recommend Adobe Illustrator because that is from my design suite of choice. You could use any vector drawing program though such as Freehand or Corel Draw. There are others too. For professional logo design it has to be a vector program. Anything like logos designed in photoshop which is a bitmap application limit the use of the design. Of course you can design logos in photoshop but professionals do not tend to do that. Illustrator has a bit of a different feel to it than Photoshop but it is an extremly powerful application. Simon DevonL 03-20-2004, 02:55 PM For 3D Art I suggest getting 3D Studio Max, though it is not a cheap application. For just plain logo design, I'd suggest Adobe Photoshop. It's a great application, pretty well priced. I cannot think of anyone who has ever had a complaint with the program, it has amazing capabilities. hovik 03-20-2004, 03:04 PM i suggest you should get Photoshop 6.0 instaed of 7.0 and also get 3D studio max! Firefuze 03-20-2004, 03:44 PM Why 6? I use 6, i just tried CS i couple days ago and its waaay better. For logo's definatly Illustrator, or Freehand, just like Simon said. For 3d, you've got a lot of choices, Max, Maya, Lightwave, etc. Each one has they're strenghts and weaknesses but these are pretty expensive, last time i checked Max was like 3 grand websterworld 03-20-2004, 03:53 PM About the same as everybody said, however I'd also suggest macromedia fireworks, it costs 300$ which is not THAT much. (photoshop 900$, 3ds max a few grand) Patrick 03-20-2004, 04:20 PM You can't go wrong with Photoshop, although several people tell me that Paintshop Pro is just as good. chaka42 03-20-2004, 04:50 PM don't know many design pros who use paint shop pro. that's like using publisher instead of quark or indesign. for logos, illustrator, freehand or corel for graphics, photoshop and fireworks (although i believe the ps is a more powerful app) for 3d, 3d studio max, maya, lightwave. i've heard great things about all of them, so it depends on your budget. resurepus.co 03-20-2004, 06:58 PM Photoshop is the best for bitmap! Illustrator is the best for vectors. Though some people also use Macromedia Freehand and Corel Draw... tensixteen64 03-20-2004, 07:14 PM Paint Shop Pro 8 is very similiar to Photo Impact 8. I have used Adobe Photoshop as well...I use all three when I have time. ;) resurepus.co 03-20-2004, 07:21 PM I wonder why you bother using these two programs when you can do everything in Photoshop... EagleImagery 03-20-2004, 08:08 PM _ Corel Graphics Suite The package comes with the highly respected vector graphics app (CorelDRAW) and a raster application (PhotoPaint). Why pay Adobe's inflated prices when Corel can match and often surpass anything Adobe does?... Works for me! $$$ :D  Informity 03-20-2004, 08:19 PM Because the Corel apps simply don't work as well? I'd recommend Adobe Illustrator (for print) and Macromedia Freehand (for web - just a personal preference) for all logo design. Stay away from photoshop if you're doing logos. Sure it has some vector support (paths), but nowhere near the support true vector graphics tools have. Andy_DrU 03-20-2004, 09:26 PM Thanks for the opinions guys, I am going to get Adobe Illustrator, but also since I have heard all the good things about Photoshop, I will get that too. Can anyone give me an estimate on the prices of these two? Sasan 03-21-2004, 04:34 AM Judging from Adobe.com, both of them will run you about $1148.00 USD if you buy off of the website. The programs will be much cheaper if you are a student and you can buy from the university store. Also, before spending this amount of money for a program you have never used (i'm assuming) I suggest you go download the demos and see if you like the way the program feels. EagleImagery 03-21-2004, 08:48 AM Originally posted by phision.com Because the Corel apps simply don't work as well?don't they?...running fine here. They even export to illustrator (.ai) and photoshop (.psd) if needs must... Senthu@BM 03-21-2004, 10:37 AM Photoshop is the BEST because i don't know any other softwares :) sk8planett 03-21-2004, 05:04 PM Adobe Photoshop is a WONDERFUL program, but it is definately not what you need for 3d imaging. I hear 3d Stuido max is great, but I haven't used it myself. I have kind of stayed away from 3d imaging. It's really different. Adam Clement 03-22-2004, 09:24 PM I would say Photoshop. markjut 03-23-2004, 05:12 PM Photshop CS is a good program to use but can become complicated if you don't read the instructions lol elle1961 03-25-2004, 03:37 PM I prefer photoshop. I recently ran across xara 3d and it's great. Studio-10 03-27-2004, 08:29 PM I currently use Jasc Paint Shop Pro, Freehand, Fireworks, and Xara X. All of them seem to be working out fine for me. TechDude215 03-30-2004, 02:35 AM I've been using Freehand for 3 years now and it rocks. But if I'm not mistaken it doesn't handle visual effects like Photoshop or Firworks might... -John |
