Just a quick warning to anyone looking for hosting or domain management. DON'T USE FASTHOSTS!!!

I have been with them for quite a while now, and they have had serious outage problems over the past year, so I have moved to a dedicated server.

To make matters worse, they don't seem to want to release my domains either! I have sent request after request, and sent a fax request as well..... all to no avail.

UKREG don't have any support method either, other than the online form, which they seem to ignore, despite promising to contact within 24h.

And then there is the story of the mis-information leading to one of my domains being disputed.... haven't got time to get into that one right now... PM me if you want details.

Fasthosts are VERY bad - but UKReg is good :)

No problems with them this end, and if u call FastHosts they can forward your call onto UKreg part

I've not had a prob with UKRED b4, but it's now the 3rd day of asking to transfer our domain away from FASTHOSTS, and still no reply, let alone any action.... how bad is that?

I would never deal with fasthosts but their UKreg division is very good, except

If you make a mistake using ukreg's system then it can be a real pain sorting it out as the support is virtually non-existant

We now prefer 123-reg.co.uk to register any domains we need, support is much better with them and their system is much better than it used to be

Thanks for your comments.

It has now been 3.5 days since I asked for my domain to be transferred... still not even a reply.... (1 word... UNPROFESSIONAL)

I'm not going to go on any more... but will just keep this thread up to date with my progress, and I think you will all be able to make up your own minds.

P.S. I have also used 123reg.co.uk and they have been spot-on with all the support I have needed.

I'm sorry to keep "bumping" this thread, but has anyone got ANY ideas of how I can get them to expediate this transfer request... it's really starting to annoy me now!

Have you consulted an attorney/solicitor?

If it's costing you money, the cost of a simple letter informing of the need to settle the issue might wake them up.

Such services aren't that expensive. You'll have to balance how much you're loosing with the cost of such a wake-up call. If it's not costing much, complain, but pull out and go elsewhere.

So what you are tyring to do, is ask one company (who actually controlls both the hosting -fasthosts, and the domain registration -UKReg) to change your nameservers to another host or to transfer the domain to a different registrar?

What I need to do is transfer the IPSTAG from FASTHOSTS to HOSTEUROPE. I would normally simply alter the nameservers, but I have just purchased a dedicated server, but in order to get the DNS working on it, we need to transfer the domain onto it, so we can obtain ns.bennettandco.co.uk and ns1.bennettandco.co.uk. Once this is done we will be able to point the rest of the domains at it. Until we have done this though, all we have is an IP for the server, and the UKREG form won't let us point it at an IP.

I think you are going about this the wrong way. I managed to transfer my domain away from Fasthosts to 123 Reg without having to get any sort of response from Fasthosts.

IIRC, all you need to change is your IPS tag and have the admin contact confirm the change. You shouldn't need to change your DNS servers just yet, at least I never changed mine (as it was no longer hosted at Fasthosts at the time).

The UKReg control panel should let you change the IPS tag to what you need it to be (in my case it was WEBFUSION, but it looks like it has changed since then). Once I did this, my domain was no longer editable from my UKReg account.

After the change had propigated, I could carry on with the transfer request from 123 Reg control panel... unfortunately my admin contact was set to someone at Fasthosts, but after a week or two 123 Reg emailed me with details how I could complete the transfer despite not having the email sent to the admin contact (as they were supposed to forward it to me)... I just had to send them a fax on letter headed paper to say that I authorised the transfer.

All in all it took about 3 week to get it sorted, but in all that time my site was still up and running despite being in limbo as it were.

Perhaps you could find a useful nugget in the story of my transfer... best of luck with it, I can sympathise entirely with your situation; been there, done that... just glad I'm out of there!
