View Full Version : You know you're gettin' old when...

Getting older really sucks.

I had a doctor's appointment today. I walked into the specialist's office and his last name sounded familiar to me. It turns out he's the son of a guy I knew back in high school. :bawling:

How does that happen? Poof! Decades just flew by you. :(

You know you're gettin' old when:

Your hair stylist asks if you want your eyebrows trimmed as well
You don't care where your wife goes, just so you don't have to go along
Your kid has to hold her report card several feet away from you so you can read it
You quit trying to hold your stomach in, no matter who walks into the room
Hair starts growing in the strangest parts of your body
You quit trying to hold your stomach in, no matter who walks into the room
You wake up, looking like your driver's license picture
You are proud of your lawn mower
Getting lucky means you find your car in the parking lot
Your ears are hairier than your head
You find yourself beginning to like accordion music
"Getting a little action" means you don't need to take a laxative
You learn where your prostrate is

:bawling: :bawling: :bawling: :bawling: :bawling: :bawling:

Apparently you're not that old Vito... old enough to know where it is, but not yet old enough to have learned how to spell it. :)

Let me give you another example, JayC. Some of my favorite songs are older than 80% of all WHT members. :(

:topic: BTW, JayC, if you ever get a moment to reply to that PM I sent you a while back, I'd sure appreciate any advice/wisdom you can share with me. :cartman:

in many places in europe (except italy) the drivers licence is valid untill you are 70. so if you ARE 70 and look like your DL picture when you was 18, THAT is weird. :/

vito

You're saying they don't get a new license printed out every few years? They hang on to the same piece of paper/plastic for 50+ years?

I think you better add short term memory loss to that list!

Did you mean to write it twice or did you actually forget you wrote it? (The original one, in the first post)

Heh, I could try to cover my tracks and pretend I did it on purpose, but that would be a lie. No, I never even realized I did that.

You know you're gettin' old when:

The waitress at the restaurant does not ask for your id when ordering alcohol anymore - instead of "hey!" she calls you "sir".

vito
03-18-2004, 08:12 PM
Are you kidding? The last time I was carded was when the Bee Gees first discovered their high pitched (annoying) voices.

Heeeey, don't stereotype me as the typical Italian! I didn't have chest hairs in which to nestle that medallion until I was 22!

I'm sorry, since you decided that you can bring in the bee gees and get away with it... I have to ask this... you can be angry at me later.

remember that john travolta movie, where he is a dancer? Saturday Night Fever I think...?

I'm talking about the ending part...

vito, tell me the truth. :dgrin:

did you stroll?

vito
03-19-2004, 11:48 AM
Did I strut? Hey, we all did. Gotta get that walk just right. A delicate balance of rythym, attitude and the right shoes. :D

you just made my day.
strut? thats what you call it...

when the Bee Gees first discovered their high pitched (annoying) voices.

:stickout:
riiiiiight.... so now they are annoying, and yet you felt funky struting to their high pitched songs...

"staying alive" - takes on a totaly diffrent meaning for old people doesn't it?:dgrin:

(sorry, couldn't resist the urge... its just a joke...)

vito
03-19-2004, 12:05 PM
Yeah, they were cool back then, but now their voices are annoying. Although, if I do ever hear one of those songs the odd time, I must admit it does bring back a whole flurry of great memories. :)

BTW, Eugene, do you know how they came up with the name Bee Gees? AND DON'T GOOGLE FOR THE ANSWER!!

Vito

websterworld
03-19-2004, 12:18 PM
hmmm... without a google search, I'd guess its some sort of a combo of their names?

I know that they are three brothers, one of them died this year I think. and I also know that they made a LOT of money... (for some reason) they were very popular.

maybe they have a craving for honey, and like bee's a lot I don't know...

Their last name is Gibb. :)

well, I almost got it right. :)

they did have some funky tunes... I'm not ashmed to admit it. dont really LIKE them that much, but they dont annoy me, thats for sure.

;)

Best,
Eugene.

That's Sick....I was inclined to say "i hope i never get that old" then i thought about it for a second :)....

I will just play it safe and say.."I hope i never get that bad!"

vito
03-19-2004, 01:38 PM
Careful, benoitb, in the blink of an eye, you'll be that old and that bad. It really does happen that fast. One day you're studying for your driver's licence test, the next minute you're going for your annual driving test because you just turned 70.

Enjoy life while you're young.

[*...On a side note, that's one thing that drives me crazy about seeing 14-16-18-20 year olds jumping in to the business world as a web host. Spending untold hours in front of a computer screen trying to drum up business. Man, it won't be long before they realize those years should have been spent with friends, g/f, b/f, just enjoying your youth ...*]

Geeeeez, I sound really old giving that advice, don't I? But it's true.

Vito

yes.

in italy you have to get a new licence every 10 years, but it is only so that a lot of bureacracy can make more money out of you.

uk, and scandinavia, and i htink spain has ONE licence. so you have the same piece of plastic untill you are 70.

i have my 3rd now though.. one was old, big, and i got the replacement. then i was beaten and stolen my documents in france, so i got a new one. and if i e.g. change my last name .. i want a new one with a new name.

and actually, i have spent so much time in uk i could apply for uk licence.

and i think i'd actually need the local licence here as well ... ;)

vito

Interesting. Then it must obviously not be photo ID. What would be the sense of a pic at age 16 when you're 50? Defeats the purpose of photo ID.

In France, Driver licences are valid indefinitely. Got mine when I was 18, and I still have the same one nine years later.

Same thing for my dad, he got his when he was 18 and he still has the same one now (He's 58). In theory, they ask that you change it if it's badly damaged or if you don't look like the picture anymore. But as far as I know, it's not enforced.

Giaguara
03-19-2004, 04:34 PM
they are valid in the country (eg. uk in uk) as long as "you look like in the picture".

i have hard time keeping the same look for two years. imagine me when i'm 70 then ...

now that i think - i did see a spanish dl as well a month ago. they are valid as well untill you are 70, so my friend was really really not looking like in the pic anymore.
