I have spent much time in the past speaking with them, and I think you can do better on other carriers. They are not bad though Joe RackMy.com 10-31-2001, 11:12 PM Savvis should be financially set as they got a 350 million dollar, 5 year contract from Reuters (who bought Bridge, who was Savvis's largest customer and shareholder). Savvis does have one of the fastest networks around, but the catch is that it's only fast while you are on the Savvis network (it was designed as a financial institution backbone, most customers stay on the network). They don't own all their own fiber as they buy transit from Level3 and others. Their peers are decent, but not as strong as they could be. They promote their "private NAPS" as they say it's better than the MAEs, but is now really a non-issue. One issue with being in a Savvis facility is that they push you out on their network and don't offer a performance BGP network (they offer BGP with Sprint and Cable & Wireless but only for redundancy). Savvis's datacenters are very, very impressive (an their national NOC is very cool) but most of the features are more of a hassle in my opinion (security, airflow design, cabinet security). I can say, everyone we have ever spoken with or dealt with at Savvis are first rate. My 2 cents! :) headsurfer 11-01-2001, 11:51 AM Savvis at one time was about the BEST there was in terms of their backbone, peering, speed, etc. HOWEVER, their network is not anything like it used to be. The likes of Verio and Time Warner run circles around Savvis. We have all three plus two others. Savvis is OK but by no means the "fastest" or "best".
