View Full Version : Free Music Downloads  MP3.com replacement. :)
If you miss MP3.com and want to get some free music try Amazon.com's free music download. :) There aren't any mainstream artists but there is a fair share of music on there. All you have to do is have an account with them to download the music in MP3 format. I think i've found heaven. Right now i'm going through there "Dance & DJ" section. :D :D

* To the people that have known about this for awhile: I've known about this for awhile. I have never actual looked at it and I think it's great.

The Dude :)
Informity 03-15-2004, 05:10 PM Too bad nothing has the amount of artists mp3.com had.
It appears a lot of the good guys - PPK, Guardians of the Earth etc. simply stopped distributing online when mp3.com was killed off by c|net
It still has a lot of music on there. I've downloaded about 50 songs so far. :)
http://www.etree.org is also a pretty decent place.. a few live recorded mainstream bands there.. i've been milking my bandwidth like crazy on that site.
Well, So far I have downloaded over 750MB just today in music (Takes about 10-15 seconds to download a song. I can't even click fast enough to download the next song before the previous one is downloaded. I'm glad Comcast upped my speed to 3Mbit. From Amazon I get 400KB a second. :)) I've kept about 100 of the songs i've listened to and that is just in the trance section. I have 50 more songs to download in the trance section and listen to them. I'm not sure about that site. I'm really liking amazon.com.
Coach 03-15-2004, 10:11 PM *Very* nice selection in the alternative catagory.
Nice find. I never go to Amazon.
Dan L 03-15-2004, 10:15 PM Spock's Beard and Planes Mistaken for Stars.. some Refused.. excellent selection for Amazon, and considering that it's so new.
Coach 03-15-2004, 10:41 PM I found something kind of interesting. I'm not certain what security measures that they have in place, but I'm not sure that certain songs should be downloaded.
Example...
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000573B1/102-8963712-0091340?v=glance&n=502706
Clicking on it originally said it was a .doc file, then I cancelled out. I clicked again and it isn't giving a file type at all and looks like it is coming from another server.
anon.amazon.speedera.net
The music I had downloaded previously came from media-server.amazon.com
Very odd.
I am using FireFox .8 and it displays as a .MP3 file to me? It is coming from that URL though. All links seem to point to speedera.net - The whois on the domain points to http://www.speedera.com/ which is a content delivery system.
Amazon is a great deal when you buy from other sellers and use them as an escrow in a way. :) You can get great prices and new items. I don't like ordering from them directly because they are charging tax now for us Washingtonians. But with some items you want to buy from them directly instead of buying expensive items from other sellers. :(
Edit: A lot of the MP3's i'm downloading have 'mp3.com' in the ID3v tags. I never went to MP3.com and now I wish I had. :bawling:
akashik 03-16-2004, 04:17 AM Some great stuff in the Goth/Industrial area too. :)

Im a bit surprised Reload wasnt on it though...
Are there tracks free or paid? If they are free songs, mind uploading some for me? If they are paid what album are they in?
