View Full Version : PlusWeb (serverhost)
MikeA 10-30-2001, 09:23 AM Has anyone ever gotten out of a PlusWeb (serverhost) contract without paying them the remainder? Jeff, if you are reading this, then I'm sorry, but the service I'm getting with your company sucks.
(1) All of our servers got moved last Thursday October 25th(moved in the same NOC, different Racks, I think). Well needless to say we got no notice that the servers were going down and on Friday we called them and said they were down. They said they would have them rebooted. We called 4 times Friday, 3 times Saturday, 3 times Sunday then Monday they let us go to the NOC. Everytime we called they said it had been rebooted. One time they said that someone plugged a monitor to it. Well the machine that went down was a Windows machine (Has the nice EVENT LOG) and the log showed:
Thursday POWER DOWN
Monday POWER UP
I think this speaks for itself.
(2) We asked them to ship us a server over 2 weeks ago and it finally got shipped Saturday, so they tell me. It hasn't come yet, so only time will tell.
This is the typical with them. My point is that this has gone on for the past 4 to 6 months. A server will go down and it's like pulling teeth to get it back. Luckily I have another NOC which is awsome.
We just want out of the contract and get our servers back. Everytime I've talked to Jeff he says, sure, but we gotta pay the remaining year. My question is has anyone gotten out?
I wasn't going to make this public, but enough is enough.
I believe if he's not providing the obligated service, you are not obligated to pay for it. You shouldn't have to pay a penny if his service sucks. I'd suggets getting your boxes and moving them to affordablecolo since their prices are great and they also have a good reputation.
JBIZ718 10-30-2001, 04:29 PM I would suggest contacting a lawyer and sueing them if you cant get out of the contract.
Lack of response and service, should breech the contract.
Overall get a lawyer
Joe
cbaker17 10-31-2001, 01:37 AM lawyers dont do any good if the person your suing doesnt have any money. my suggestion if your not happy colocate with jbiz ;)
Selushen 10-31-2001, 03:11 AM What kind of cash are we talking about here to pay out the remaining of the contract? Depending on that value you may be able and want to go to small claims court, arn't they $5,000 and less with no lawyers expected.
SnoTurtle 10-31-2001, 03:39 PM Luckly, im not on a contract with serverhost, however i still have had problems of my own, and have a simple billing question,
I have a dedicated server with serverhost / plusweb. I have not had access to my WHM / Cpanel for the last month and a half, i have talked to the techs over the phone about this, and sent jeff emails about this, My WHM / Cpanel still ahve the error "license expried" with the unix time stamps.
Should i have to pay $100 a month for the service i dont have? I'll pay the first half of last months WHM / Cpanel bill, but i sure dont plan on paying the other $150 for a this service i never recived, or a product i dont have access too! I wont even mention that my server was down for 5 days last week, Ahh.
Jeff, please email me!
Just out of curiosity, have you run:
/usr/local/cpanel/cpkeyclt
as root from your server?
Try that and if you do not have an error message after running it, you should be able to log into your WHM. This basically renews your license (Assuming it has been paid, is valid, and in the license server).

Perhaps you should bring these issues to my attention first before posting in a public forum?
I have told you repeatedly that if you are having an issue to give me a call directly. To this date, you have NEVER called me about an issue. The server shipment issue is NOT our fault, we already explained that to you and to your partner. As for your server being turned off, I find that hard to believe, because I remember turning it on myself early Friday morning, getting a link light on the switch, and getting a ping response. I sent out an ICQ message to your partner letting him know that we would be moving the servers and to expect a short outage. I was told that they did in fact plug in a monitor and keyboard to the server in question, and I don't see any reason why they would lie to me.
Mike, you have been trying to get out of this contract since about the second day after you signed it. A contract is a contract, period. We've made quite a few allowances for you in the past, including allowing you to keep servers in both our Columbus and Atlanta facilities simultaneously. And, to be honest, you have one hell of a deal with the promotion you signed up for.
I'm willing to work with you, but let's take this offline, okay?
Regards,

well after reading your cpanel problem
I don't think thats a billing question, i think you should of emailed jeff directly, or emailed or contacted their tech support instead. i dont think billing@plusweb.com answers problems that have to do with cpanel not working properly ?
SnoTurtle 10-31-2001, 07:59 PM Its a different issue, i keep getting emails from billing@plusweb.com, asking me to update / edit my cc info to pay for the service, but i dont have a password, in the email it says to reply to recive the password, i have replied to this each time to recive my password and take care of this, but with no reply... :)

I'll work this out with you.... I personally haven't seen any e-mails to billing, but someone else may have received them.
phearle 11-01-2001, 03:49 PM So THATS why my serverhost server had 23 hours of downtime last week! I can't believe I'm hearing this from another customer. I had to place 6 calls before my server came back online. grrr.
And I had the same billing problem as you MikeA...I have a _4 CENT_ balance on my credit card and their billing system kept charging me 0 dollars. sheesh.
I hope this changes for the better soon. However, due to the fact my server has been down for 3 1/2 hours already today after being down 23 hours this past weekend, I'm not that confident.

SnoTurtle 11-01-2001, 03:57 PM Ugh, this is making me sick. I wish i only had 23hrs of downtime last week, i was down for 4 days... and yes, im down right now.
brandonk 11-01-2001, 07:00 PM I'm down too... apparently a switch went out, did the switch just go out a few months ago?

I just have to reply on this one:
I have sent billing@plusweb.com at
least 8 emails during the last months.
The issue was that Plusweb did not charge us
for our server, but keep on sending us overdue
messages. I have also mailed you and called plusweb
4 times. Each time requesting that you charged the
given card and set up recurring billing.
The last message from you was that the card was declined.
Ha ha... We have a MasterCard with $25.000 instant credit.
The same card was charged by another serverhost during
the same period without any problems.
Finaly on October 27th. you manage to charge the card.
My point is: if you operate with a address for billing matters
you also need to read incoming mails. And answer them!
And now the cpanel licence has expired...

SnoTurtle 11-04-2001, 03:16 PM Sounds about the same as me :)
