Hi

I need to find a dedicated server that will be able to handle about 1000 concurrent users through digichat.

Does anyone know what specs I will require? I dont want overkill, just need something that will work with that many users without crashing.

Do you think specs like this:

http://www.managed.com/pentium90.htm

would be good enough? or do i need a more powerful server?

Oh I would need a windows server too.

Thanks in advance

Can i ask what digichat is?

Is it like IRC? Or rather, is it IRC.

Also do some searching on managed.com before making a decision.

I run an IRC server that hosts around 1500- 2000 users which uses about 400gigs of bandwidth a month, so 1200gigs for a 1000 users maybe overkill, unless you hope to expand, also managed.com dont allow IRC from what i remember.

well that managed 2.8 will do the job for you just add one more GB of ram to it later on if you felt a need for it and you are just good.

digichat wont use much more than that if it is installed in a good way major lag is where they will be connecting from.

other option is you host it with digichat servers they do hosting as well and get a grantee on the speed from them, but again you wont get the price you get it at managed.com

it's not digichat, but check out sigmachat.com (it's java)

they host the chat on their servers,
you just host the html page for loggin in.

digichat is java and memory eater, i'd recommend more ram than fast or dual processor, used to nice so nice on 1GB ram P3 1.3c around 500concurrent users

SCSI would be also nice, but even with ide didnt harm till it start reaching swap.
