View Full Version : Will I get sued?
iwannabe 10-29-2001, 10:34 PM Hey Guys and Gals,
I have NFLoffice.com and NBAoffice.com:D
Do you think I'll get sued?
What do think I can use it for?
Perhaps email service, but, I wonder if there'll be any
profit in it, though:D
Or perhaps forum related to NFL and NBA?
I picked them up since it looked so good, but, now,
I am worried I may get sued.
What if I developed the site, build traffics and make
it successful. And then, their lawyers come looking for me?
What do you think?
Rewdog 10-29-2001, 10:37 PM I'm no lawyer, but there are plenty of NFL and NBA fan sites. I think you'll be fine as long as you recognize that NFL and NBA are trademarks accordingly, and maybe have a link to the official home page.
The forum idea sounds best IMO
greengunboat 10-29-2001, 10:39 PM you should turn it into an e-commerce site and sell football and basketball stuff
iwannabe 10-29-2001, 11:04 PM rewdog and greengunboat:
Thanks for your feedback:D
Making a forum and/or selling stuff on sites is no problem.
I can even turn it into full blown portal site.
I can drive the traffics.
I can make it listed high on most top search engines.
I can do any kind of programming needed to make it work.
Ah, I am not a do it all kind of guy.
I just know enough top talents for each fields for the
good price:D
I see no problem with any of the above.
My biggest concern is still NBA and NFL themselves.
I put my time and money developing sites and make them
highly successful and then lose it to them.
That's what worries me:(
Rewdog 10-29-2001, 11:07 PM email the NBA and NFL and ask if you want to be really sure.

iwannabe 10-29-2001, 11:35 PM Any lawyers?
How about law students?:D
ranitidine 10-30-2001, 12:05 AM It can be considered cybersquatting, resulting in you turning over the domains to the organizations that hold the trademarks and/or being sued. Depending on where you registered the domains also matters, I didn't bother to do a whois, but you probably did it in the US. Any lawyer can not tell you want the organization will do, only what can happen. So I advice you just contact them first and ask, rather than risk the legal problems.

Cybersquatting?
Man, I do not like that word:(
I got over hundred domains and all of them are related to
my main site or plan to use it as door way pages to direct
traffics to my main site. Or, domain names contain major
key word for my main site which will be placed higher on
search engines.
Those two are only domains that I registered without thinking
and I could be considered as cybersquatter?:(
I thought cybersquatter is one who register domains with
intention of selling it for profit. Am I wrong?
So far, I got three advices to contact them and ask what they
think. Hummmm... What to do?
If I ask them, I can see what's going to happen.
They'll simply say turn over the domain or else.
Now I know why there are so many domains that contains
NFL without any web page. I guess they are concerned
just like me.
NFLoffice.com and NBAoffice.com
They are just too good to give up:(

Um, cybersquatting is when you buy a domain and try to sell it to the organization. For instance buying microsoft.com and selling it to microsoft for a lot of money. However if I have microsoft.com and am utilizing it, microsoft could claim it b/c of copyright/trademark infringement or something like that and take it from you.

Heh, OK:D
I've been up all night and looked for domains that contain
NFL or NBA. I've found many.
Some page display "copy right" or "trade mark" thing at the
bottom of their pages.
Some, nothing.
I wonder all of them are taking their chances:confused:
klisis 10-30-2001, 09:27 AM you know, all these time you have spent time asking, you could have contacted them directly (by e-mail or even phone) and ask them. No one can give you clear answer but the organizations themselves.
Contact them.
