Last weekend, one of my clients requested anonymous FTP. We usually don't give it, but he had a valid reason and a good reputation.
I know you can only give one site per IP anon FTP. Since nobody on the IP he was on had anon FTP, I gave it to him thinking "no problem"

And it was no problem. Worked fine. He tested it, I tested it. Him happy.

Next day him not happy. It didn't work anymore. Said password not accepted. I disabled it, enabled it and it worked again. Him happy, me happy.

Next day...it doesn't work anymore. Password required/invalid.

Any ideas? I got none thats for sure :(

It appears that a nightly cron job or reboot resets the /etc/proftpd.conf file, mabey you could make a cron job to automatically add the correct parts to /etc/proftpd.conf, email cobalt and tell em you have a bug :) (although cobalt really doesnt help much)

Hmm, the only daily cron job I have is webalizer. I'll take a closer look. Thx

There are more in teh /etc/cron.* folders because cobalt uses em to generate logs etc... do you reboot nightly or does this just happen every night regardless of reboot?

It happens every night regardless of reboot. I haven't rebooted the server in quite a while.

Well, it's not webalizer. But something sure is messing around with my proftp.conf I just deleted and reset the users anon FTP, and now all the info is back in proftp.conf
