:) Hi there,
Just wondering what scripts other hosts disable in fantastico because they are resource hungry, we are in the process of setting up Fantastico on our servers and just wanted an idea of what scripts not to enable. We wont be enabling YaBBSE for instance however what other scripts from the list below would you suggest to steer clear of ?

If you are worried about server load then you might consider installing it or putting it in auto-install scripts so it would be installed automatically. Even lartest phpbb forum (http://josie.go-gaia.com/forum/index.php) (that is many times larger than WHT) uses it and it heavily decreased cpu usage and page load times for them.

Just curious why you singled out yaBBse? You do realize that it's the original yaBB which is CGI based and heavy on CPU usage?

yaBBse is PHP based and should be similar in resources to phpBB2 and Invision Board.

:) Hi daverj,
Didn't mean to single it out just using it as an example because it is/was notorious for using up large amounts of resources.

We will look into the changes that have been made to it and consider offering it again if we feel that it isn't as hungry as it use to be.

PHP Nuke sites can start to beat your CPU to death with a lot of visitors. PHP Nuke isn't very well optimized and has tons of SQL queries which will slow a large site down. Even HTTPme doesn't allow PHP Nuke on their servers ;)

But when we update fantastico the extreme styles mod will overwritten.
Am I right to say that?

:) This is strange I have asked this same question in other forums including cpanelthemes.com and this is the only place that I have got an answer.

Anybody willing to comment on which scripts are considered resource hungry, it would be greatly appreciated.

I think it all depends... for instance... phpAdsNew can be a hog if you have all the logging enabled but its a great script/program...

:) Hi spiceman,
Thanks for your advice on phpadnews, however I think it will be a case of suck it and see.

We will just have to allow most of the scripts and see how they go and then take it from there.

The fact is that any and all of those scripts can be resource hungry if enough visitors are hitting them after install.

On the other side of the coin, renowned 'resource hungry' scripts such as CGI forums can be very light if no one ever visits them.

You should be fine with most of the listed scripts but just keep an eye on server resources as normal.

PHP-Nuke is a very popular content management system, and shouldn't be discontinued with any host. It brings customers, who bring money.
