After you put up a new server, how do you do a reverse dns?

If you are going to setup a reverse dns on the servers IP ?
Firstly, set up a ptr record in your dns, then at the router level add a rDNS to match your ptr settings.

some people prefer to have rdns setup and some don't.
imho, i prefer to turn it off.

To do rev. DNS you first must get rev. DNS authority from your upstream provider. Then you may have to follow specific instructions from them to setup rev. DNS properly.

If we setup reverse DNS for the nameservers then will it remove the info about the ISP or NOC from the traceroute or visual route.
How can we remove the info about the NOC or make our server anonymous.
Please let me know.

You will probably only have reverse authority for your server/block but will not the IPs of the switches/routers on the network.

There is no way to have total anonymity (? Is that right ?) .. Unless of course you own you own fibre and routers/switches etc..

Rev. DNS will only work if you are assigned authority over the IP's.

I however am proud to say that I DO NOT manage my own backbone, core routes and switches.. I leave that to my upstream provider to worry about. Which leaves me to do more important things.. like care for the customers.

Why is it that some people think it's okay to be shady. Cybermike want's MASS untraceable email and Jolly here doesn't want people to know what network he is on.

*gosh*
