I am sure somebody here know about SQUID (http://www.squid-cache.org/), a web server cache program. I think I know what this software does, but I just want to hear a real experience from somebody that has used it before. How much performance increase on you web server do you get? Can I lower my server load using this cache program? Any comment will be appreciated.
cheers,

You'll see a much better increase in performance if you are doing a LOT of cgi/php/perl type work AND you put squid in front of the machine, not ON the machine.
It's called Reverse Squid Proxying and it's in their docs.
You can also use it to do a poor man's load balancing.

Squid is indeed very good for caching.
The best thing about it is it's reliability...
Have a great day :)
