View Full Version : Oldest .com domain?
Hi,
I just found out that citicorp.com was registered
on 31 August 1989!
Any other domain as old as citicorp.com?
Anyone knows what is the first .com domain?
TA.

A quick check shows that att.com is from April 1986...
There's probably some even older than that..
El Nino 10-29-2001, 10:02 AM I see a lot of places that I thought would have ones longer than that have re-registered since then like internic.net, networksolutions.com, aol.com, whois.net, arin.net
cperciva 10-29-2001, 10:27 AM Remember that organizations like IANA are quite recent inventions; for a long time IANA/ICANN was simply Jon Postel. It was only shortly before his death that organizations were created to do the task which he alone had been doing.
Chicken 10-29-2001, 10:32 AM The first domain name registered (in regards to .com's of today, and the current system) was Symbolics.com (registered on March 15, 1985). Other info... "After that, it took nearly 15 months for the number of domain registrations to reach 100".

speaking of sex.com, I read this a while back. Makes for pretty interesting reading. It's rumored to pull in $100 million a year. The rest of the story just gets more amazing :)
