View Full Version : Looking for Solaris Web Hoster

I have been searching around but it seems tough to search explicitly for web hosters that offer Solaris (preferably V.8). All I see is "UNIX/Linux"

I would definitely need CGI and shell access.

I noticed www.21stcenturyhost.net. They would meet my needs but they are in Canada and I would rather deal with someone in the United States (prefereably east coast).

I would appreciate any suggestions?

My first host way back when was with DeZines (http://www.dezines.com) and at that time they offered Solaris and pretty good support.

Is there any particular reason why you specifically want Solaris? (Just wondering :))

What kind of Solaris hosting are you looking for ? I think Vortech does have Solaris server but not sure of hosting.

Look at your-site.com in Massachusetts. I haven't been with them in at least a 18 months or so, but was happy with them at that time.

Isn't 21st Century a reseller of CommuniTech.Net?

Without looking at their site, that URL is on a communitech server at least.

Many US customers are starting to consider more seriously hosting in Canada, for a couple of reasons;

1. The weak Canadian dollar can make a decent price into a good one if you make your living in US funds.
2. Many Canadian hosts are backed by US corporations and as such have great north/south traffic routes.
3. Space is becoming abundant up here. The consolidation of hosters is moving rapidly, and the number of fly-by-nights is down to a minimum. We are very close to figuring out who the final players are.

I wouldn't close the door on a Canadian host. Consider it. If you aren't colocating, do you really need to be near your server? Perform ping tests, routes etc. to make sure your potential customer base will get the performance you desire.

Most of the major hosts up here will offer a brand-name NT and SUN solution as part of their product mix.
