View Full Version : Browsers
kmb999 10-28-2001, 10:39 PM Which browser do you use? What version?
What's good about it and what is bad?
I use Mozilla {Build ID: 20001101117} and once in a while MSIE 5.5.
Kyle
Rewdog 10-28-2001, 10:48 PM I use IE.... Not that Microsoft is the bomb diggity or anything, but I think just having 1 browser would make a web designer's job a TON easier... Too bad so many browser interpret certain things differently which can screw up the whole page *cough* *cough* NETSCAPE *cough* *cough*
Phrozen 10-28-2001, 10:56 PM I use IE 6.0 most of the time. I keep a copy of Netscape handy when I'm designing sites though.
dherman76 10-28-2001, 11:11 PM IE 5.5....Netscape is too slow most of the time.
method5 10-28-2001, 11:12 PM IE 6.0.2
I prefer Netscape over IE but use IE mostly since I'm usually running Windows.
nsanden 10-29-2001, 02:01 AM IE 6... Can't stand Nutscrape err Netscape. It loads pages slower and I like how IE shows the page loading rather than keeping it blank until its fully loaded. (Maybe thats just an option you can set in netscape? I dunno, and don't care. I don't like netscape.)
(SH)Saeed 10-29-2001, 05:58 AM Internet Explorer 6.0 here. I wish someone would come and take Netscape away.. just like that..
DougBTX 10-29-2001, 06:59 AM One browser?! :D
I use IE5.5 SP2, Netscape 6.1 (much better than 6!), and Opera 5.
I use IE the most, but 6 and MSN Explorer seem to be loosing the track...
Later,
Douglas

The solution is not having just one browser, the solution is having browsers that actually implement the various specifications properly.
It is unfortunate that Microsoft illegally took over the browser marketplace, because MS IE is probably one of the worst offenders when it comes to buggy implementations of HTMP, XHTML, javascript, etc. And the thing is a bug-infested security hole.
Instead of demanding that everyone use just one browser, why not demand that the browser vendors follow the WC3 specifications?
muppie 10-29-2001, 08:30 AM I use a browser called NetCaptor.... it uses IE for its engine but it opens new sites in "tabs" instead of windows.... so it doesn't make my taskbar full
node9 10-29-2001, 08:44 AM bblah

Of course. That's plenty of power for a dinky little web browser.

Mozilla and Opera do this, and I think Netscape might too.
This is a feature that MSIE could really use.

Seems like M$ is going the opposite direction... they make everything "SDI" look at Office 2000 / XP

If you are talking slow for downloading IE5, I normally get mine from CDs that are attached to magazines.... :)
ProSam 10-30-2001, 05:14 AM IE6
Good: Loading Time
Bad: Nothing I can see
MSN Explorer
Good: Lots of features to integrate hotmail, messenger and other cool stuff.
Netscape 4.7 Sometimes
Good: Checking pages for compatibility
Bad: Almost everything else.

Try this (I've seen this done before, and it's true.)...
Get two hotmail accounts and set them up with msn explorer. Use one and surf new and business sites for a while, and use the other to surf xxx sites for a while. Then, notice that in account one you'll get business proposal spam, and in account two you'll get xxx spam. Msn explorer is nothing but fancy spyware.

akashik 10-30-2001, 03:01 PM Still using good old IE 5.5 here - nice and common and tends to work just how it's supposed to. When I'm over in the other partition I use Konqueror - great browser, and again, does what it should, when it should.

I don't use MSN Explorer much.
Just for listening to radio stations and setting my mobile phone news.
But that stuff is weird.
