Well I have a server with Rackspace, and both the uptime and support have been stellar. If price is not the primary concern, I'd definitely go with Rackspace, at least over say Verio.

I would go with rackspace over verio any day of the week. They are a better ran company that is not in the downsizing process and is centralized around what you probably need which is smaller end dedicated customers as opposed. Pricewise they are both probably on the higher end of the cost spectrum.

Not to mention Verio's network, which seems very unreliable compared to Rackspace's. Every once in a while I cannot reach a site going through Verio, with doing a traceroute reveals the problem is local to some areas. Then after 1/2 hour or more, it comes back up. This never happens to Rackspace.

I'm going with rackspace ..just signing the remaing contract which they sent to me. There were some mistakes..( I sent them signed contract in the morning..but I guess somethig was wrong with it, so I'm sending it again)

Just need to ask 1 thing.

I'm an international customer in INDIA.

I'll be using support only through email, as phone calls are very expensive to USA.
Is email support fast in rackspace...I expect them to respod in 15 to 30 minutes I guess..even at 2 am or 2 pm of day.

What do you people say...am I expecting too much ?

That might be a reasonable time for emergency support (e.g. if your server is down) -- but for standard support I would say 15-30 minutes is expecting too much of them. If it's a non-emergency support issue, you should give them up to 24 hours (although hopefully they would respond faster than that).

I'm talking abt emergency support only...but I would inform them only on web.
Emergency = server down or any other proccess like email, ftp or http not working properly.

For normal support 0-6-12 hours is fine I guess.

I've used their emergency email support a few times. The problem is sometimes clients initiate these emails without justification, which creates a backlog. Normally expect 6 hours for a reply during off hours.

You seldom need to use emergency support if you aren't fidgeting with the server a lot. Uptime is pretty much 100% these days.

Im for Rackspace 100%...they are probably one of, if not the best managed/dedicated server host in the industry. They have supieror support, network, and facilities. Email support, Phone support, and online chat is awsome.

Also, for the guy in India....you can always chat live with a tech support rep if you need something done in real time. If your server is slow and needs a reboot...you can just go onto their chat area and talk with the support rep.

It would be interesting to know why member MattR moved out of rackspace and into dialtone a few months ago. Might go back and do a search on his user name. He is running a cluster of three servers, and I don't think it was just the $ that lead him to move, I think he was not happy with other aspects of rackspace. Anyway, just thought I would throw that in, because he is the first person I have heard complain about rackspace.

Thanx a ton guyz

But hey....do they offer online chat for support too ???
And if yes, is that chat on for 24/7 ?
If that is the case....I guess I've done the best thing to sign with rackspace.

Thanx again guyz.

A word of warning on Rackspace - several of their netblocks have been listed by spews.org for spam issues. If you land in one of these netblocks, you might as well be invisible.

see http://spews.org/html/S423.html

Also, try a dejagoogle search on RACKSPACE SPAM .

I am also from india and have have had 2 systems with rackspace in the past 2 years, Their suppor is the best i have seen in the industry ,well so far atleast amonst the dedicated hosts we have tried out

They do not offer Icq or chat support, Their support is through their online trouble ticketing system,

They sometimes respnd in about 30 mins , but never over 2-3 hours,
Remember that we are 12 hours ahead of usa time, so obviously it would be lesser staffed at night time, But we still managed to get support in less than an hour most of the time,

If yours is linux server, then you are in safe hands, If windows system i would say at times they disappointed us,

They are good if this is going to be your first dedicated box,

Rgds
