I think! Chris Ales 10-27-2001, 03:03 PM Depends what are you looking for... Do you need linux servers, win2000 or Raq? Do you need little monthly data transfer to start with or a lot? What kind of support do you expect...? For now, I can only share my experience about contacting providers and their response, pricing, etc... For example, acsdatanet.com support/sales are nonexistant. I tried them several times with no response at all. Don't touch them. Multipleimage.com response is qiuck and very professional, pricing is very good too. Their customers seem very happy and I believe my company will use them in future. You might see that other hosts are also very respected here, like Venturesonline.com, vdi.net, dialtone.com, pwebtech.com, *******.com, etc. In my experience, *******.com response is among the best, I would expect the same from their support department. Their prices are good but data transfer charges are a bit high. Venturesonline, vdi and dialtone have also given me a good impression when I contacted them, very professional and quick. Pwebtech initial response was good but when I contacted them for actual pricing information, they never replied. I did remind them once, I guess they are still too busy... well, I'm not going to use them, that's for sure. But since they have a lot of customers here and seem well respected, you might get a better response. If you need a Raq, there is always rackshack.net. Pricing and service is realistic, according to their customers. I would advise you to read trough *all* the forums for some time back and use the search function a lot... great information can be found here. Ales GeorgeC 10-27-2001, 03:38 PM I was considering multiimage for one of our sites, but their network speed doesn't seem too impressive. Perhaps it's just the locations I'm doing the tests from, but this was one of my concerns. Lmax 10-27-2001, 03:45 PM Also take a look here http://www.cheapunixhosting.com/ They don't have fixed prices on their site, but they have some cheap servers. Got my second server from them. dherman76 10-27-2001, 03:46 PM I have to say that cheapunixhosting.com offers excellent support. I would recommend them! node9 10-27-2001, 05:01 PM i would have to go with multipleimage they have good support from what ive seen, and they have good network connectivity. delemtri 10-27-2001, 10:26 PM Nobody's mentioned rackshack.net yet! creid 10-27-2001, 10:34 PM Originally posted by delemtri Nobody's mentioned rackshack.net yet! Good Ol' Rackshack! Love thos Raq's! Chris:) delemtri 10-27-2001, 10:48 PM Their website says they're gonna be doing RedHat Linux soon too! Almost wish I hadn't already committed to a different provider. :) freakysid 10-28-2001, 12:58 AM http://forum.rackshack.net/showthread.php?threadid=906 Pricing Set for First Linux Offer I have officially set the pricing for the new Linux servers that will be available in EARLY November. Configuration: P III 1 GHZ 512 MB RAM (Max available) 2 x 40 GB Hard Drives (NOT Raid) Remote Reboot Port Dedicated 10 MB Connection via LCRP Program. Monthly $229. Set Up $250 This pricing is guaranteed for the first 70 units only. We will be emailing current customers about 24 hours prior to the launch with the exact date and time that the servers will become available. Also, the above pricing may change after launch. If the price goes up (max range up to $299), your pricing will be fixed as long as you are under the LCRP. If the pricing goes down, we will change you rate when the new price becomes effective. I am working to bring the cost down to the lowest point that Rackshack can make a positive net margin. YOu can be assured that as we drive our networking cost down, we'll work to make our new services as affordable as possible. Thanks for your support!!!!! __________________ Robert Marsh Head Surfer Rackshack.net Not a cheap solution in terms of dollars out of your pocket per month but in terms of bandwidth 10MB - oh my! Web Master 2 10-28-2001, 01:21 AM Avoid those cheap scams that are designed to rip you off, be very cautious and do your due dilligence when you are committing yourself to lengthy contracts. We have been using rackshack for several months, zero server reboots, quick repsonse on tech support, no bandwidth rip-offs, everything runs smoothly, and we are paying a fraction we used to pay. Ales 10-30-2001, 02:13 PM The above price from rackshack.net includes Plesk PSA 2.0 control panel with 200 domain license. 200$ one time upgrade fee to unlimited domain license. PIII 1000 etc. and Plesk and 3200GB data transfer... for 250$ setup and 229$ monthly ??!!! I beleive this is the cheapest offer in this part of universe at the moment. :D I might get one if all 70 don't get sold in the first 5 minutes... Ales Lmax 10-30-2001, 03:02 PM edit : Joke wasn't really appreciated, though i wasn't insulting the host or something. ReflexHost_M 10-30-2001, 03:11 PM Originally posted by Lmax You forgot to mention the cogent bandwidth with about 99% downtime :D I think thats a little unfair, even if intended as a joke. Do you have evidence to support 99% downtime, and I am not stating my own opinion on Cogent, but again you don't state evidence against it - presuming, from your post, that you do dislike Cogent. Matt Lmax 10-30-2001, 03:15 PM my appologies, didn't mean to offend you  Chicken 10-30-2001, 04:02 PM ...and let's not bash other hosts for the fun of it as it only makes you look bad. Might want to edit that comment out eh? HostingDirect 10-30-2001, 05:35 PM Interserver.net has some very good packages and they just announced they will be switching to Cpanel from Webpanel. Performance and uptime has been great and support has been very fast most of the time. You can get into a server starting at $140.00 with no setup fees. Not bad! I also think the new Rackshack Linux offering is promising but in my personal experience sysadmin support can be slow but I would still recommend them. Lmax 10-30-2001, 05:40 PM Hmm, don't know how this message got here, wasn't intended to be here. |
