View Full Version : Know anybody who made a U-turn on a highway? My exgirlfriend did this!
HostQuest 03-07-2004, 09:03 AM Me and my exgirlfriend were getting off a highway, but she made a mistake and didn't get off but got back on the highway using the same exit. The exit merges with the entrance to the highway.
Anyway, once she noticed she made a mistake as we were entering the highway she made a Uturn on the highway to go back to the exit so we can get off! When she did this I just about jumped out of my skin and yelled in terror! Three speeding cars almost hit us, and one Semi, but we made it back to the exit and got off the highway! This happened late at night while coming home from clubing.
Before this she put a huge dent in my car, and drove drunk with me, but I didn't realize she was drunk until we were moving, but she wouldn't stop and thought it was fun! She was allover the road, and almost hit a parked police car, but luckly for us no one was in it.
So, has any of the above happened to you? Tell us your horror stories on the road.
Rob83 03-07-2004, 09:07 AM that is not a horror story, that is a stupdity story.
HostQuest 03-07-2004, 09:10 AM Yes, she sure was dumb, but extremely beautiful. Wonder if she's still alive?
Rob83 03-07-2004, 09:17 AM My answer was about both of you.

Luckly? Luckly? You were probably drunk as well. That's wrong with society. A drunk person gets behind the wheel and all they can say is "luckly she didn't hit a police car".
HostQuest 03-07-2004, 09:21 AM I wasn't drunk at the time, and the reason why I stated that is because I haven't had much sleep last night, so I'm running on fumes today. I was on the internet researching hosts. We were out in the boonies, so there wasn't much to hit, except when we came into town, just glad we didn't hit anybody. That was the last straw that made me break up with her, should've broke up when she did that thing on the highway.
Knogle 03-07-2004, 10:06 AM That's a crazy experience indeed! The most extreme case i've been in is reversing on a highway. My dad missed the exit, so he went to the left-most lane, switched on his hazard lights, and slowly reversed approximately 50metres. Was pretty OK though. :)
akashik 03-07-2004, 10:13 AM Make all the excuses you like for her, she's an idiot and should be banned from ever being behind the wheel of a vehicle. Next time she might just kill someone, and I'd rather it not be me.
HostQuest 03-07-2004, 10:28 AM Huh? I'm not making excuses for her, where did you read that akashik?
I just wanted to start a little conversation here, not ruffle any feathers.
I don't drink, just made a mistake of getting together with an idiot alcoholic for a short time, but it's over. I can say one thing, she did lose her license from what her friends told me, just hope she's not driving illegally.
silhouette 03-07-2004, 10:51 AM dangerous driver!!:(
2Grumpy 03-07-2004, 11:20 AM I was coming home from work one night in high school, and was nearing this sharpish curve about 2 miles from the house, as I got near the curve I passed a cop coming the other way, and he quickly hit the blues and I could see his brake lights light up as he got ready to turn around, so I just kept going through the curve and where the curve straightened back out there was a church, I flew off the road into the church parking lot (doing 60 or so) and then used the church parking lot to slow down and pull behind the church and quickly kill the motor and lights, about 20 seconds later the cop came by, sirens and blues on zooming up the road after me (I was doing about 90-100 when the cop clocked me, I think, speedo stopped at 85).
I waited till he crested the hill then turned on my motor and slowly crept out of the church with my lights out and headed on home (turned the lights on after I got on the road again).
Not a U turn on a highway but pretty stupid :)
Frosty 03-07-2004, 12:36 PM I always like to drive blindfolded on the wrong side of the road and run redlights at the busiest intersections :)
Webdude 03-07-2004, 01:02 PM The younger you are, the more likely you are to do really stupid things. I did a lot of them, but I was married to a woman whom I had NO compatibility with. I dont think she was compatible with anyone. This woman could drive a crazy man nuts.
I did two things in the car which were really stupid, both happened in Austin Texas. Mind you, this woman did things without regard to problems they can cause. In both cases, she was busy yelling at me, and even hitting me. One time, on a two lane road with an 18-wheeler not far behind me, I slammed on the brakes and skidded over to the shoulder. I had it timed, but she didnt know that. I also had a cb in the car, and the trucker damned near had a heart attack.
Another time, we were on a four lane highway. I slammed the breaks a did a 180 and came to a stop facing traffic. I told her I would correct everything if she shutup and stopped hitting me. She did. I felt at the time that if I was going to get killed, it would be thru my own fault, not her hitting me.
I would never dare do that today, and am lucky nothing happened to me back then, and that I didnt harm anyone else. I also divorced that woman. At the time, I was only about 21. I got married young, still had a short temper anyway, and married a woman that was a demon in disguise. I couldnt have any nice things with her, because she would destroy them first time she got mad. When we had nothign else for her to destroy, I had her arrested for putting our 3 month on the floor with her feet on top of him. That's the kind of woman she was. I swear this woman could turn most straight men gay, fortunately I was a bit stronger than that :D She's the only woman in my life I have ever hit. She was the kind that wouldnt let you walk away, and was very violent when mad, and she got mad if any little thing didnt go her way... I have been happily away from her for about 8 years now
jpavleck 03-07-2004, 03:08 PM I was a professional truck driver for almost a year. I've seen more things then I would of ever imagined. You'd be surprised just HOW MANY people attempt to join a highway using the offramp - meaning they are driving the wrong way!
I've said it before, and any trucker will agree with me, all drivers should be forced to learn to drive a semi truck and then drive over the road for a month or 2 in one. You'd learn how to drive and treat other vehicles with respect. I bet the accident rate would shoot down to almost nothing.
I'll freely admit that after a year as a professional driver, my skills are excellent now! Learning to drive a 65 foot long, 12'6" high, 10' wide, 65,000 pound vehicle with a trailer really teaches you how to read the traffic - cause if you don't learn, you die. hehe
dbbrock1 03-07-2004, 03:25 PM Now I don't feel half as bad for the stupid stuff I've done driving compared to some of you. I guess everyone has done something stupid while driving atleast once in their life.
The Dude 03-07-2004, 03:32 PM I had a stupid baby sitter once who made a U-turn on the highway (I was young,4got how old i was)
The Dude :)
Acroplex 03-07-2004, 04:24 PM At least did you get "any" later on since she was drunk? :D
justwandr 03-07-2004, 04:34 PM I have done few things but never made a uturn instead went back becouse we missed the exit and didn't exactly know where we were so would have gotten lost so just had to go back 30 or 40 feets to get the exit simply reversed and went back *carefully*
Acroplex 03-07-2004, 04:53 PM The worst thing I ever did was floor the gas pedal in a 2 lane country road to pass a slow vehicle in front of me, so I entered the opposite lane with traffic in the horizon. I had a near miss as the jerk in front of me accelerated at the same time.
RossH 03-07-2004, 05:08 PM Lets see the worst thing I ever did was street race down a somewhat busy 2 lane road. I had a 76 Monte Carlo Vs 80 something Camero. We were swearving in and out of traffic driving in the wrong lanes at speeds over 120 mph. Luckily I didn't die in all the street races I have participated, although I do miss the fast speeds. I now drive the speed limit as I think I paid for half of the street lights in my town with speeding ticket fines.
DefiantPc 03-07-2004, 05:22 PM My x husband while pulling a u-haul trailer behind his Blazer
decided to cut through a shell gas station parking lot to avoid the
red light.
While taking this shortcut he un knowingly hooked the the fender
of a parked VW bug with the bumper of the trailer and proceeded
to pull it about three blocks before I finally made it through the red light and caught up with him.
He then did a u turn and pulled it all the way back to the gas station and returned it to the frantic owners.
They decided not to report it as they had no insurance.
Frosty 03-07-2004, 06:25 PM I can note plenty of other things people do on the road which are downright stupid. Like when you are driving on the highway and the person in front of you is driving 5 MPH in the FAST lane and doesn't have the mental capacity to understand he should not be driving in the fast lane and should move over. People like that bog down traffic like crazy and cause accidents.
That gives me road rage.
Acroplex 03-07-2004, 06:29 PM Go Juliet go! :D
Jasber 03-07-2004, 06:39 PM Something I submitted to an older site of mine: :)
On my way back from class this evening I noticed the guy behind me tail-gating me. I found this to be absurd as I was already going 10mph over. So I did what every sensible person would do; I slowed down.
This didn't seem to make him too happy. At the next opening he tried to pass me. I again found this to be absurd. How dare he try to pass me. He sped along side of me for about 5 seconds.
All of a sudden, a car appeared in his lane coming straight at him. I began to think; should I do the nice thing and slow down to let him in, or do I floor it. I floored it. He slammed on his breaks and was forced back behind me.
At the next light he turned right. Now, there is a point to this story. Generally when people try to race me I get upset. I found this to be because I always lose, however, this time I won! I was overwhelmed with excitement.
This event made me realize two things.
1) People who say driving isn't a competition are the people who always lose races.
2) I'm an *******.
Acroplex 03-07-2004, 06:48 PM MUAHAHAHAHA good one!
Artashes 03-07-2004, 06:58 PM Has anyone ever played chicken on a highway with the police? :D
PS: Jasber, that was one of the funniest things I've read in a long time!
Frosty 03-07-2004, 07:04 PM LOL :D

I can't say I've played chicken, but late one Friday night and bunch of us were out riding motorcyles. A police officer friend of mine saw me riding in the group...pulled up along side of me and flashed his lights. I gunned it as hard as I could and left the officer (and my friends) in the dust.
The kicker was nobody knew I knew this officer and they all freaked out when I took off down the road.
interactive 03-08-2004, 01:40 AM You have #2 right. :D.
Nothing against you or people from Mexico, but down here (20 minutes from the border) we have idiots who come up (from Mexico) and will do that and I think most of the time it's no on purpose. They'll drive 15 under and then when you goto pass them they speed up (even when you're along side them) and then when you get back behind them they slow down again. I want to pull out a gun and shoot people like that. I never took drivers ed, but my older brother told me back when I was younger and when he was taking it that the instructor said no one should ever have to break the speed limit, even to pass, most absurd thing I've ever heard..

First thing is a bit dark.
The second one is not absurd, but the law. OK, going deeper into that law - you should first let the driver ahead of you know that you'll be passing him. That driver is supposed to slow down a bit and let you pass without any problems. Another thing is that few of them do.
Best,
KIA-Joe 03-08-2004, 02:05 AM I always used to race people from the light ... no matter if they were a teenage punk or and 80yr old g-ma.
Anyway I was at a red light on my way to work. There were 2 lanes that both turned right. The outside lane would cut off and then they would merge into one lane after the turn. Well I always took the outside lane to try to get in front of the long line. Well this person on the inside didn't want to let me in ... so i hit the gas even though I was on the side of the road and cut him off. Well I hit another light and this is the light where I turn into work. Well I hear this mysterious sound over my blasting radio and it's him having a total freakout fest behind me ... honking his horn, yelling, smashing his steering well... well I just turned around and looked at him and laugh noticable at him.
Well he didn't like that much and when I finally could turn in he turned in also but came from behind me, pulled in front of me and slammed on his breaks ... flipped me off ... and then pulled away ...
I just thought it was funny ... well on my way home he pulled out in front of me ... and i pulled up next to him while driving and stared at him very intently ... well he sped up ... anyway to make a long story short I followed him all the way to his drive way with him looking in his rearview the whole time ... i'm lucky he didn't call the cops ... but i'm sure he learned his lesson ...
HostQuest 03-08-2004, 04:28 PM One time when I was passing a Semi in a Hummer while traveling on the tail end of a convoy some guy pulled up fast behind me in a BMW flashing his lights like crazy because he wanted to pass, but I couldn't get out of the way because I was already along side the Semi in the passing lane.
Once I was able to move to the left lane to let this moron pass he pulled right in front of me and hit the brakes on purpose, but I couldn't hit the brakes hard enough out of fear of getting hit by that Semi I just passed, so I smashed into his beautiful BMW and pushed him off the Autobahn so we both wont get hit by that truck. As soon as we stopped he jumped out of his wrecked BMW and ran over to us screaming, so my buddy cocked his 9mm and put it in his face and held it there till the Polizei showed up.
As soon as my buddy put his 9mm away the guy jumped him and me and the rest of my team jumped him and slammed his as on the concrete. When the Polizei took over this idiot went nuts, so they wacked him a few times with their nightsticks and cuffed his hands and feet. Later the Polizei told us the reason why he was speeding was because he was testing a new BMW for a german car magazine and he was on a deadline. I bet that was his last asignment after wrecking that car.

Best,
That still doesn't make sense, because say someone was going 10 under, we'll say doing 35 in a 45, and to pass the person in a reasonable time you'd have to do atleast 55, IMHO. You see my point?
