I have been trying to find a host that is fanatical to provide technical support and committed to response within 12 hours. I know many hosts operate 24 hours with shifts, but they are reluctant to activate the troubleshooting request when a request is submitted, not until the next morning..

Any clue which hosts are at this superior level?

There are two aspects to talk about when you speak of service time:
time to respond - the amount of time that elapses before someone is working on your problem.
time to resolve - the amount of time that elapses from the time someone starts working on your problem until the problem is fixed.
The total of those two is how long it takes before the problem ticket is closed to your satisfaction (note: most hosts will close a trouble ticket without actually asking the customer if the problem was resolved to the satisfaction of the customer).

Getting a guaranteed time to respond of 12 hours or less is usually rather easy.

Getting a guaranteed time to resolution of 12 hours or less is more difficult, and will add to the cost of hosting somewhat. So you may want to be prepared for the cost of what you are asking for. :)

It drives me nuts that every so often I see newbies spamming the board with Alteia replies. This post had nothing to do with them. Neither did this post.

Looks like to me they have some buddies pimping the boards. I guess companies like Pair with 110,000 satisfied customers get less positive post then a new company as of April this year. Hmmm.

Mike the newbie, hit the nail on the head. Response time is easy. Especially for new companies that are so high on excitement that they are up 20 hours a day *waiting* for an AIM or e-mail. The key is resolution. Many companies now colo or lease servers in other countries or states. If you need something fixed that requires their help, you will need to wait for them to get to it. So a 1 minute response "OK, I am working on it" doesn't mean anything with a 24 hour resolution.

Hello KyleB,

Why did you edit your post? I am just curious what have you posted... :)

Thanks.

If you have proof of this (I'm assuming you do), then please forward it to me. There were 4 usernames with some variation of kb, all email addresses changed to something that doesn't exist, and all are now banned, though I'm sure they'll be more.

Sorry about this. My browser was having some trouble with login via the WHT site. That's why I had several accounts that I had recently abandoned. I was going to PM you about deleting these accounts, but I guess I don't have to now.

Why did I edit my post?
Apparently because it was not appreciated. Before I started experiencing problems I had over 100 posts here, I was watching the forums a few weeks before I made my first post, so I'm not really a newbie. I also have experience from being hosted with aletia. They were nice enough to even help me edit one of my perl scripts via AIM so that it would run properly, so I consider them a good company. I'm not hosted my them anymore, nor am I paid by them. I broke off my hosting with them so that I could run my own hosting company that will launch soon.

Ok? I just had to clear this whole thing up. And I'm hoping my browser begins to function properly now, but I'm not counting on it because it's MSIE. I should probably use Opera, but I don't know.

Kyle, sorry to hear about your "My browser was having some trouble with login via the WHT site. " I never knew that a browser can keep you from logging in, not once, but with numerous usernames.

Just out of curiousity, what domain name do you host with them? Just want to check it out.

Hello Kyle Babich,

Thanks :)

BTW, I use MSIE v6.x and Netscape 4.78 in Win98. I have redhat 7.2 install in my same HD. I have no problem logging into this forum at all using both Win98 and redhat7.2.

I think it would be better for you to email the moderator(s) in this forum about your problem(s) since you are not going to use your *old* account here.

Just my thoughts :stickout

Hi collief. I have a dedicated server with http://QWK.net, and every time I have called in with an issue it has been resolved literally within minutes. I use e-mail for any problem that doesn't need immediate attention. If you live in the USA and can use an 800 number, I recommend QWK.net.

My browser is MSIE 5.5, my OS is Win98. When I was logging in I would get errors like "088x-3493-gh3j4" with the only opion being "ok". I have no idea what random letters and numbers mean, or how to fix it. After restarting my browser and computer and still being unable to login I would just register a new screen name. I have no idea what the problem was, but I hope my browser doesn't do it again.

I used to host iy-2.org with aletia. As you can see, the domain name if now for sale through afternic, but I'm sure if you contact aletia they would have some record of hosting me.

Did you try to reinstall MSIE? Maybe by doing this will remove the error.

Err... sorry, Kyle... we better not to post anymore off-topic posts in this thread or otherwise we will get *a knock* by our dear Mr. Chicken ;)

P.S. PM me if you would like to :)

Before this thread gets back on topic I thought I would mention that I don't blame anyone who doesn't believe me. I've had that kind of luck lately. A few days ago my cat ate my homework (really), and I had some fun trying to explain that to my teachers, who I still don't think believe me. I was also called to the principals office because my first block teacher accidently marked me absent one day, so now the administrators in my school think I skip class (I've only been in this school about a month and a half). That's my luck recently.

I've been monitoring Rackshack.net - added a banner for their affiliate proggy and pop in and out of their chat support to see how things work.

Chat support is 24/7 and I've seen them work with several people on server probs. So, i'd say if it was basic stuff, you can get a "live" person to discuss the problem immediately, and they were providing resolution. Have seen posts that it may take a while for a server reboot though.

I did ask a question about the policy regarding hosting celeb sites on a rackshack box, and was told to email abuse to get an answer. Seems like they might have been able to handle that at the time (since they knew I was in the process of signing up for a server) rather than having me email abuse and wait.

Also - I've had a box at verio for 1.5 yrs.
I have had great phone support: immediate reboots, etc..but it's a bit pricey.
