View Full Version : How long should One wait before moving on from a company?
Bllatt 03-04-2004, 01:19 AM Hello,
I would like to speak to a representative from www.imhosted.com
If for some reason this post is not appropriate please let me know.
Thank you
colorteck 03-04-2004, 01:22 AM why dont ya try there site you would probably get a faster response dont you think?
Bllatt 03-04-2004, 01:31 AM Good point,
I have tried their site, they take a days to respond despite the fact that I am a customer
I need to speak to a representative directly because I am having problems.
colorteck 03-04-2004, 01:38 AM do they have phone support? If not time to move on I would think especially if it is taking days to respond to a customer. Your not on one of those $2.99 specials are ya?
Bllatt 03-04-2004, 07:46 PM The customer service of imhosted.com is absolutely terrible.
No matter that message you send them, you get the exact same response:
"Your Issues have been forwarded to the appropriate department"
They have a money back guarantee so I am sure they will not respond when I ask for my money back.
I would like to know where I can report fraud and failure to act on guarantees.
Your not on one of those $2.99 specials are ya?
No I am using one of their so called " fully hosted, Full featured" plans.
Bllatt 03-04-2004, 07:53 PM I am curious how long one should wait for deadbeat customer service before leaving the hosting company?
I am asking this because I am new to being a webmaster and so far I have wasted a lot of time and money waiting for replies to my enquiries from hosting companies.
Is there a certain time after which to leave?
blue27 03-04-2004, 07:58 PM You should leave when you feel the customer service does not meet the level you believe you paid for.
Mark_TVI 03-04-2004, 08:00 PM If you are speaking about Sales, then make sure you allow enough time for a response during normal business hours. If it goes beyond 24 hours I would discard them from my list of potentials.
If you are talking about Support;
In an emergency I'd say a couple hours at the most.
In a non-emergency issue I wold say 8 hours at the most.
The amount of money you are losing could certainly shorten the expected response times considerably. I would also get on the phone and call them. If they don't have some sort of telephone contact available I'd say that's another problem.
ldcdc 03-04-2004, 08:03 PM Indeed, blue 27 said it very well. I would also add that any delay in doing so could result in bitter consequences. Believe me, I know it first hand... :)
Bllatt 03-04-2004, 08:39 PM Ok, While I was asking presale questions, the response time was good and the sales questions were answered in a timely fashion
After I purchased the hosting plan the support started taking more than a day, and I've had to start up new support tickets everytime I got a response on any topic
Also for some reason the company ( imhosted.com ) said that the domain I registered with them is not their problem.
The fact is that they claim it will be working in 48 hours after purchase, and to this point it's been more like 120 hours and still no domain.
Can they say that the domain name is not their responsibility?
Mark_TVI 03-04-2004, 08:44 PM Well if you paid the Hosting company for the domain then they are responsible to provide support for it in my opinion. I can't see any domain taking 120 hours to propagate, there is something wrong somewhere. If you post the domain name we might be able to help you figure out what's wrong.
As for their Support tickets, I don't know how they do them but some hosts do automatically close tickets after a Tech response. If their support and resolution for the domain are unacceptable to you, give them an ultimatum.
joshp 03-04-2004, 08:49 PM You say you purchased it through them... chances are they are only a reseller for one of the registries (Enom for example). It really is your responsibility to go and set your nameservers up with the registrar etc..,. (although they should be helping you!)
This host however should be a little more helpfull than that and at least either tell you what you need to do or have a tutorial/faq/kb article on how to do it.
I'd be leaving. There's plenty of hosts around with outstanding support.

If your time is important and you have have better options* ( I'm sure you do!!!) then by all means...move on. :D
Bllatt 03-04-2004, 09:56 PM I'd be leaving. There's plenty of hosts around with outstanding support.
excellent, suggest some? 1bg space, 40-50gb transfer, php, mysql, good telephone support.
This host however should be a little more helpfull than that and at least either tell you what you need to do or have a tutorial/faq/kb article on how to do it.
yes they have tutorials.. but regarding the time it takes from the propagation they say 48 hours and that's the only place that it's mentioned
then by all means...move on.
I'd be leaving. There's plenty of hosts around with outstanding support.
Yes i need my money back first :):):)
Watcher_TVI How would me giving you the domain name I registered which is not registered yet help?
aingaran 03-04-2004, 10:01 PM But, if you expect the moon for pennies, you might be left out in the cold when it comes to support.
Check out hostrocket.com & lunarpages...I belive they have a very good reputation ... (very few reputable companies offer such plans as you're looking for)
Mark_TVI 03-04-2004, 10:48 PM Watcher_TVI How would me giving you the domain name I registered which is not registered yet help? I didn't see where you said they didn't register it yet, in fact you said it was registered and that you were waiting 120 hours for it to work. Posting the domain name would allow a look up and possibly discovering if it is registered and where it's pointed to if it is.
No worries though, I'm sure you'll figure it out...

How would your website be working if you haven't registered the domain yet? You have to register a domain and point it towards the host's nameservers for it to work.
If you post your domain, many people here have the knowledge to be able to tell you what is wrong.
Bllatt 03-04-2004, 11:28 PM Sorry, I misunderstood the question
I registered www.moneyonforum.com
My hosting company charged me for it, but it has been almost 130 hours since I registered it and it's not working even tho they say on their site that it will be up and running within 24-48 hours of registration.
I've searched for it at www.domainwhitepages.com and I cannot find it
help if you can

Bllatt 03-04-2004, 11:34 PM Great, where did you find that?
and can you please delete it? it's my personal info, send me a PM
Douglas 03-04-2004, 11:37 PM Domain was registered TODAY.....
http://reports.internic.net/cgi/whois?whois_nic=moneyonforum.com&type=domain
It's not resolving to an IP address yet, though, so you may need to kick the host a few times...
It may be personal information, however, it's accessible to the internet. More and more registrars (and even ICANN) are starting to require valid information for domain registrations, which includes all actual contact information.
aingaran 03-04-2004, 11:40 PM Blatt,
I've edited the post, but anyone with internet access will be able to get that information if they do a whois lookup on the domain name.

PH-Peter 03-04-2004, 11:47 PM If you have waited 120hr , it is certaining the host fault. They have just registered the domain today.
colorteck 03-04-2004, 11:53 PM yes definetly looks this way they either forgot about it or they were waiting to get some payments to order your domain. Not a very good sign at all.

I understand anyone can view my info, but please go back to the initial post and remove my information. I don't want any random people viewing this to see where I am,
Thanks
colorteck 03-04-2004, 11:55 PM thier is a time limit on editing posts here so you will have to use the report this post to a moderator to get it removed now.
Bllatt 03-05-2004, 01:04 AM Ok, so .. I purchase the domain on the 29 of feb. Apparently it registered only now, march 4, 2004
TRN Douglas:
It's not resolving to an IP address yet, though, so you may need to kick the host a few times...
When I was purchasing my plan, there was an additional option, to purchase a static IP. I read the info on that topic and I decided that it wasn't important, plus in previous hosting purchases the static IP did not make a difference.
Could the lack of a static IP be the reason behind the unresolving IP adress, or is it not resolving because it was registered soo recently?
PH-Peter 03-05-2004, 01:12 AM The static ip doesn't make a difference. It is not resolving cos it is just registered. Domain names can take up to 72hr to resolve. But normally it should be able to be resolved in 48hr or less.
Gordo 03-05-2004, 10:25 AM In order to file a complaint, you need to find the physical location of the webhost. It might be on their site somewhere, or do a whois lookup and go from there.
Based solely upon your postings, my guess is they are located in the basement or garage somewhere. If somewhere in the US, then the attorney general, secretary of state or consumer affairs office of the state.
Filing such a complaint is usually a complete waste of time.
Niftex 03-05-2004, 12:50 PM Try to email them they have aready given they self a bad name tho your about the 10th here today
Martie 03-05-2004, 12:58 PM You mention the money back guarantee and hopefully you are still within that time frame to receive it if thats what you are trying to do. Check their terms for cancelling, etc.
When all means of contact have been exhausted then you can contact your CC issuing bank and do a chargeback.
Bllatt 03-06-2004, 01:05 AM Ok, after waiting, the domain is resolved and it seems like everything is working fine.
Bllatt 03-06-2004, 01:16 AM Ok I understand, I will see how things develop
