View Full Version : Screen Area- 800x600 is the best!!!
One Web 10-26-2001, 12:25 AM Hey what do you have your screen area set to? i have mine at 800x600 but i know people dont use that any more am i the only one left? What do you consider the best one and why? when i set mine up to a higher number it hurts my eyes. does it take time to get use to the new size or not?
oh and also what do you consider the best color conf to be? i have mine at high color (16 bit) is there a betta one.
Fubonis 10-26-2001, 12:36 AM The majority of PC users use 800x600, but most techies and graphic designers use much higher resolution. And 32-bit color is cool.
Dahlia 10-26-2001, 12:43 AM i have mine at 1152x864, 32 bit color quality. 800x600 is too small for my monitor and everything looks gigantor, the images on websites look like they are 5 times larger than they should be. i think you get used to it over time.. but i do think it depends on the kind of monitor you are using.. if its small and dinky then 800x600 is a good setting. :D
One Web 10-26-2001, 12:52 AM i have a 19 inch moniter when i tried 1152x864 i almost went bliend i could not read anything and things looked so small that i could not tell one line from the next.
joe52 10-26-2001, 01:01 AM It's personal preference. I run 800x600 on 15" monitors, 1024x768 on 17" and 1280x1024 on 19". Most people seem to find 1280x1024 on a 19" monitor to be a bit hard on their eyes, but it has never bothered me.

I use 800x600 but that my monitor went higher...
I plan to buy a new monitor for use at 1280x1024.....
mahinder 10-26-2001, 01:14 AM i run 800 x 600 at 32-bit and 85 hz
i only have 15" monitor but i will run 1024 x 468 on 17" monitor.
;)
phpjames 10-26-2001, 01:16 AM 800x600 sucks soooooooooo bad!
I can not see on that rez and anything less than 1024x768 makes me angry!
driverdave 10-26-2001, 03:30 AM 17"?
19"?
15"?!?
Savages!
Thanks to America's Funniest Home Videos giving me $10,000, I got a nice 21" Sony, running at 1152 x 870. I almost went for that 24", but I couldn't bring myself to do it.
Oh, and I'm set to millions of colors, whatever color bit thing that translates to.

they still record that show. i thought they were all re-runs
JustinK 10-26-2001, 04:08 AM I'm at 800x600 on my 15 inch monitor. My computer can go up one more in resolution but really can't handle it. The screen starts blinking even after restarting and my eyes are bound to fail soon enough, not about to tempt them to just up and die on me. :)
Aloha
I run on my main box
2 -19" a sony g400 and a viewsonic PF795
both great monitors run them at 1600x1200
matrox g-450 card
Cleanest card out there (under $500) for running graphics such as photoshop etc...
my other box runs a 21" hitachi also running at 1600x1200
selling it soon and getting another set of 19" to run
(SH)Saeed 10-26-2001, 06:28 AM I'm running 1152x864 with True Color 32-bit on my 17". I'm concidering getting a TFT monitor..
Jason King 10-26-2001, 07:17 AM 1024x768 32 bit on a 19" trinitron
Domenico 10-26-2001, 07:22 AM 1024x768 32bit 120Hz most of the time.
When I need more I switch it higher with powerstrip.
klisis 10-26-2001, 08:38 AM 1024x768 is my solution although I do have 800 x 600 running on a few old PC I have.
XTStrike 10-26-2001, 09:06 AM at work i have a 17" monitor, thats running at 1024x768 and at home i have a 19" running at 1280x1024.
Its not just the resolution you run at but more the refresh frequency, if its too low it wil hurt and damage your eyes.
imho, most people can see my moitor at the resolutions is use, although I can always tell a persons age as to how well they can see my monitor !!
I use 1024x768 on both a 17" & 19" monitors.
Stats from my rugby club's site show that
49% of the visitors use 800 X 600
45% of the visitors use 1024x768
4% use 640x480
2% use 2048x768
From a band site that I run:
54% use 800 X 600
28% use 1024x768
6% use 640x480
The rest is several odd sizes: 560x420, 1920x1440, 1152x864
ReflexHost_M 10-26-2001, 11:12 AM Normally 1280:1024, occasionally 1600:1200...
But hell, 800:600 on a 19"? My monitor is 19" and 800:600 makes everything enormous!
Phrozen 10-26-2001, 03:17 PM Wow, you all have huge monitors.
I use 1024x768 24bit on my 13" monitor.

The Prohacker 10-26-2001, 05:59 PM I run 1280x1024 on both of my 21" Sony Trinitrons...... The only thing I could possibly like about windows, the ability to use more than one monitor.....
