View Full Version : CC Processors for startups
Cyberpunk 10-25-2001, 10:02 PM Been doing some looking at CC services, my criteria are no ssl on my site, good range of service features like repeat billing, montly billing, etc. Also no mrechant account (yet - mabye if things were to go well). I'm also looking for a service which dosent make lowish monthly charges to customers impossible due to high rates etc.
I seem to be gravitating towards revecom so far as I seem to be able to see what I get for how much long term which helps planning ahead for costs.
What do people here think of them? (Or alternatives fitting the bill, so to speak:D).
David@Digisurge 11-01-2001, 04:28 PM Use and have used Revecom for a while. If you don't have SSL they are a good choice. I have had no problems with them. They have always answered my emails very quickly. The only bad thing I can think of is that they were down for a day a month ago. However they said the have recently upgraded their system and database backend.
davidb 11-01-2001, 04:42 PM I also say revecom is a good choice. This biggest downfall, which in my mind is not so big, is the 1 dollar charge on nontangable items, ie webhosting
Cyberpunk 11-01-2001, 05:02 PM Thats $1 + nearly 4% of the amount off every transaction isn't it.
Yeah, I also wouldnt mind it so much to begin with.
I like their setup because I dont need ssl and hence the cost and setup to begin with. If business grew well enough then I'd take the plunge for SSL and ccma etc. But revecom would let me keep costs low to begin with.

Yeah I agree with that. But I'd rather have the dollar charge than an extra high percantage they take out on each order. For example Instabill was like 10%.

No way. For higher sales 10% is a killer. $1 is a good compromise for both high and low ticket items. It's a different thing altogether if you are just selling $20 hosting package.
Did you consider http://2checkout.com ?

kwimberl 11-02-2001, 11:56 AM I'll second the 2checkout.com option. We have multiple sites, and I use 2checkout.com for one of our companies.
Chicken 11-02-2001, 12:22 PM I'm trying the 2checkout thing as well. Unfortunately, some of my clients like paper invoices but I still need to process cards and I had to decide between revecom and 2checkout. I used to use instabill for this stuff and thought I'd try something different.
Cyberpunk 11-02-2001, 03:03 PM I did look at it. I will take a better look and see what I think.
I'll post which I lean towards.
Fremont Servers 11-03-2001, 02:38 AM iBill.com is another option you might want to take a look at.

Ibill's services didnt seem suitable last time I checked them out for something, but that was ages ago, I'll have another look.
Am I right in thinking that $0.45 and 5.5% works out better than revecoms $1 and 3.95% for lower payments, say $25, and revecom works out slightly better for higher payments, say $100.
I dont like the look of 2checkouts reserve system for disbursement though, but they do seem more compatible with shopping cart systems, etc.
How are you finding them Chicken?
Cyberpunk 11-07-2001, 05:20 AM Nah, their percentage take on payments is still way too high in my opinion, 12 to 15% roughly.
That just dosent compete with revecom and 2checkout unless I'm missing something.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
cyber_cynic 11-07-2001, 08:51 AM Hi,
I am also looking at using Revecom. The one issue I am having trouble with is the payment validation aspect.
I want to be able to validate that that the payment has been approved in real-time. I cannot find any info on the Revecom web site as to the scripting requirements for this and unfortunately Revecom has not answered my month old query regarding this.
Maybe someone can tell me if real-time validation is possble with Revecom and where the requirements are to be found.
TIA
Walter 11-07-2001, 11:14 AM The validation is not real time at Revecom.
genaldi 11-07-2001, 02:09 PM That real time validation is one thing that's keeping me from going with Revecom. I hear that they don't validate for a day or two later sometimes? So far it looks like 2checkout.com is the best bet. The only thing I wish they had, that Revecom has, is that Revecom will list your name as the merchant of record, I believe after you've been their 30 days? 2checkout will always show 2checkout on the customers billing statement. If I'm misinterpreting things regarding that aspect, or if things have changed, feel free to enlighten me.
Thanks,
David
Joana 11-07-2001, 02:36 PM No, Revecom will not list your name as the merchant after 30 days..
The website is a little (? ?) out of date..
genaldi 11-07-2001, 03:10 PM Really? Yah, I'd say they need to update their site if that's the case, since it still reads
"Initially, all charges will appear as PaySystems.com, Inc. About 25-35 days following account activation, we will issue your personal MID and TID. Charges will then appear as YOUR COMPANY NAME by PaySystems.com."
I just sent them an email regarding that.
Thanks,
David
Joana 11-07-2001, 03:13 PM Please let us know if you got an answer back..
genaldi 11-07-2001, 05:17 PM Well, here's what I got, I had asked about their fraud checking also.
"We do verify people's credit card numbers and while doing that we have a fraud screening process to ensure that all the orders placed are legit. On the credit card statement, the name says PaySystems.com Inc. with our toll free number below it. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to e-mail back."
You would think they would update their website at least, and I could of swore that I've recently read some posts in here that they put your company name on the customers credit card statment?
Nevertheless, 2checkout looks all that much better now since Revecom doesn't list your name any longer...
Take care,
David
