For those of you that don't know I have been hosed by my web host. See the link below on this board for all the details. In a nut shell no response from the host (www.alphite.ca) and access from 275+ users of my phpbb board is now reduced to less than 10. AOL, Cox, Verizon, and more can no longer access... I need a recommendation please....

Host need is 20gig month and 250meg storage.

My board is fully backed up and ready to switch and I need to do it now! The board is motorcycle related and I have $1,000 in ads in Cycle World Magazine that came out last Friday.

The catch: Need semi-adult okay hosting. Not a Porn site at all!!!! But motorcycle folk tend to post some pics of bikes with chicks.

I AM NOT ADVERTISING MY SITE But please let me know recommendations for a hosting site that meets the criteria. <for my forum>

Previous post on this subject that has only gotten worse is here at this link on this site:

www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=242454

Thanks in advance!

Jason

P.S. I apologize if this is not right for this board. But frankly there is no place better to ask for suggestions and share the word on bad hosting service than here.

Take your time and do not rush into it. I realize your site is down now. But do your research before rushing into the same situation.

Good luck!!

ps nice forums you should blend the top picture into the background would look great.

If that's anything like a popular forum..try to get a semi-dedicated hosting account if your budget allows. ;)

Thanks Sandee but I have motorcycle folk all over the globe that now are dead in the water... From Military in Iraq to back street riders in California…I would like to take my time but I did that last time before putting up the site and look where it got me.... I need a site to move to now!!! Tonight!! Tomorrow!! Immediately....

And suggestions would be totally appreciated!

stupid question but when someone makes a request, can us hosts answer that request?

whats the protocol here?

and why dont hosts want forum board people?

...access from 275+ users of my phpbb board ...

What does that part mean...looks like total users to me. Those don't matter to such an extent. If you have 275 online users, then you need a semi-dedicated or dedicated server.

Your BW and diskusage requirements are fairly ok and Lunarpages.com and Hostrocket.com both will take you up in their $8/mp and $10/mo accounts respectively....but they won't take on 275 forum users in those accounts.

We are not allowed to respond to requests as technically requests are not allowed.

The hosts that are "scared" of forums are usually the ones who oversell their servers.
Forums can be system intensive and have a tendency to grow.
That doesn't fit well with the business plan of the overseller.

The stupid rule here that keeps you from answering. If you noticed this site now makes money of people looking for hosting. I definetly am not sacred of these forums.

If someone asked for help quick for hosting you should be able to respond to it. But the almighty dollar now rules these forums. Why would anyone pay the money to become a premium member? I always wondered why people will pay to to be part of a forum? I have seen a few other forums where you have to pay just to see the posts or become a member. Why would someone do this when there are other forums that you can get to that are free?

Seems to me it has something to do with the hosting requests?

I personally feel that the last post belongs in the feedback forum, although I couldn't agree more.

The request forums were removed for that very reason....to force the sell of ads.

I would look at a VPS at DINIX.COM.......we use it for many hosting accounts that want to run a busy message board....no problems so far and great service.

I agree the web hosting request forums had allot of free requests. they should have said no more free request offers but they found away to make money off this and people who pay them will only be able to view the forums. usually greed is what takes down an empire.

Nobody is scared of anything here and we welcome forum board people like any other legit hosting requests but we are not allowed to advertise or reply to requests over here and people are also not allowed to request webhosting quotes on this forum.

Considering you have been a member since June 2003 you really should know better.
The requests forums were removed because that was the wish of the forum members. It was a long running battle and the members got what they wanted. All of this occured long before there was any talk of paid membership.
Eliminating free requests was only part of the issue. The main issue is garbage hosts responding to every single request with outrageously low and impractical offers which ultimately made the request forum redundant for the people who were actually trying to run a decent business and for the people who make this forum work.

90% of all request forum responses were by "members" who never made a contribution to the forum. They were here only to solicit business.
Why should it be alright for them to expect to make money off this forum with nothing invested, but it is wrong for Inet to want to make money when they have many thousands of dollars invested?

I can agree with that too.

However, it really hasn't made things better, just worse. Now there are random requests throughout the board, and more spam messages.

The mods said this would be easier to deal with, by simply reporting it. Of course that's the same process as before.

The sad truth is, iNet couldn't make money on banner ads, if the hosts were able to get business free in the request forums.

Now don't misunderstand, I agree that for the most part the request forums were full of garbage $0.99/mo for 1000GB of bandiwdth offers.

The thing is though, getting to know iNet a little better, when my company designed their SwishTalk.com design, I can tell you that iNet is all about the money, nothing more, nothing less, and they will change whatever they need to change, remove whatever they need to remove, and say whatever they need to say, to increase the sale of banner space.

WHT has become more trouble than it's worth IMHO. I will not advertise here I think it's useless. Removing the requests forum was something I did not agree with . Especially since the result are the same crappy hosts advertising $10.00 plans with 200GB of bandwidth in the offers forum. C'mon now wtf is that . . . save a vicious cycle.

I agree that hosts with crowded boxes can not handle a forum of that magnitude. This is because of the resources used by the same. However if their pricing model was not ridicously low and they had a clue they would not be in that situation to begin with.

Last but not least I have to remind the webmaster/site owner that they are not innocent as they were eager to jump on the penny pinching band wagon. Now that the ride has gotten bumpy and/or broken down you can't complain . . . you got what you paid for!

There is quality, quality offered at a discount for a specific reason/time period and there is flat out BS. 1GB/200GB for $10.00/mo is just that BS!
