Hello all, :wavey:

I am interested in venturing into Web-hosting but am deluged with info from all different companies,

One in particular is Host2Own, they seem to offer an awful lot for a low price i.e,. PIII at 1Ghz, 512 Ram, big hard drive, Linux etc.. etc.. plus their bandwidth is super cheap,.. ie 100 GB Data transfer for above system.. and they say that you can buy 100Gig blocks for $100 each,...

In addition, they offer a control consol called IBiz etc..

they claim super cheap rates for "unlimited" 10 and 100 MBs data lines if you colocate there,..

is this for real or is it a scam??

are they spam friendly??

btw they are associated with CariNet and their super cheap bandwidth is offered through SDColo.com

any experience both good or bad with this company?

also, their IBizConsole,.. the pricing seems to start cheap but they charge for EVERY service,.. you know,.. nickle and dime you..

opinions

any and all info or advice would be greatly appreciated,.

thank you

I cant speak for their regular services, but I do have a cabinet with them with my own boxes. The 100$ per 100Gig is on their multi provider bandwidth(genuity/level3/and one other one). The "unlimited" you buy a whole rack and the bw is on cogentco(I have this one). Cari.net staff is great people and I am glad I have chosen them to test the cogentco bw.

they quoted me $1500 for full rack,.. and the "unlimited" 100Mbs line at $2500,.. by my math that is over 30,000 GB,...

that is about 13 cents per Gig,...

if you have a full rack with unlimited BW,. do you actually get 100Mbs sustained?

do they bill based strictly on data-transfered,.. or do they have any extra charges for spikes and surges?

thank you

The unlimited plan at SD Colo is based off of drops not transfer. They give you a hose and let you push as much water through as your hose can handle. Of course you can only push so much. If you get a 100 Mbps drop, then you can not burst over 100 Mbps. The limit is on the drop, not transfer. (However, due to the ethernet drop restriction, you will max out on transfer everntually. So it still is not unlimited)

The 10 and 100 Mbps drops are Cogent. Do a search here on Cogent as it has been discussed a lot. Some hate it, some love it.

We have been a Carinet customer since they started the "Become your own ISP" on RAQ1's back in summer of '99. H2O, Carinet, Domain Gurus and SD Colo are basically all the same company.

I would *highly* recommend them.

Two points. One, the Linux box they sell maxes out at 512 RAM. So you can't expand. Two, it does not have a CP. You will need to load one. They are working on a propriary CP that integrates with iBiz, however it has not been released yet.
