I got an attachment in my reply from Digital Zones called empty.gif. I wasn't able to forward the attachment to a nonessential email account. Only the main message was forwardable. How can I test it safely? I got one of those messages that said all attachments are checked for viruses, but I don't trust it, and I don't trust that it's really a regular gif image.

Sounds odd, if you are concerned, can you save the image out to a directory then scan the directory?

I don't know, but when I right click on the attachment link, I have the option to "save target as". I'm not sure what that does though, and I don't want to set it off if it's a virus. I don't care much about these computers because they aren't my own and I have nothing of value on the hard drive, but I don't want to open it from my email account. I asked billing what it was, but I don't really care what they say.

Yeah, save target as (what you should do with all attachments if not scan them through the email program). Save it to any folder on your HD and then run your scanner on that folder. It will tell you, though if it is nothing you'll miss, then just delete it. People email me loads of crap and what I don't feel I'll miss (as in will you live without seeing this), I delete.
