I'm thinking of switching to Site5 from my current provider, Verio. I've been unhappy with the responsiveness of the webserver for postNuke and with the slow mySQL queries. Experiences found via searching on this board seem to be (mostly) positive. This site I'm running (it's not open to the public yet - it's still in "working-the-kinks-out-mode") is here:

http://cooltech.org

As I mentioned, it runs on postNuke (a php based content management system), which seems to be very slow (at peak times, anyway) on Verio. Verio also has somewhat quirky and not particularly well trained tech support, as well as being more expensive then most of the other hosts' I've checked. Site5 charges 30 bucks a month (vs $50 for verio) for 2.7 times the bandwidth I'm getting now.

Anyway, is Site5 a good choice? I was also considering Ventures Online, but they seem to be a bit more expensive for bandwidth and it seems liek a worse deal.

I can't speak for using PostNuke on Site5, but I can give kudos to Site5 for its php capabilities. I run a pretty php-intensive site (http://www.spaceagecomics.com) there, and I haven't had but one or two minor problems.

One thing I especially like about the Site5 guys is that they update php just about every time there's a new release. This is nice. My old host had a version of php that was a year (read: eons) out of date. Repeated requests to upgrade were given the official run-around.

Good luck with the search!

Bandwidth is an important issue to many including myself but, support and uptime are also.

I think you can consider venturesonline or aplushosting instead.. recently Site5's Calypso server is getting probs and yes, I was with them for 1 week only

Same situation here. I was just a bit more enduring, gathering experiences with Hyperion and Calypso. ;)

I can also recommend VO.
