Hello,

I just got my raq4 with 512 mb at Rackshack . Without touching anything and not uploaded anything I see through telnet this :

7:05pm up 1:35, 2 users, load average: 0.03, 0.01, 0.00
34 processes: 33 sleeping, 1 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped
CPU states: 0.3% user, 0.3% system, 0.0% nice, 99.2% idle
Mem: 517368K av, 505268K used, 12100K free, 40540K shrd, 449988K buff
Swap: 131532K av, 6924K used, 124608K free 24300K cached

I do not have any hit or html in the server. Even my dns are not pointing to them so I have no trafic.

And my raq is using full memory and swap??

Mem: 517368K av, 505268K used, 12100K free
Swap: 131532K av, 6924K used

I have asked it in rackshack forum and been told by techs that this is normal but I just want to be 100% sure it is.

I do not want to take any steps or install anything before I know it's safe.

I do have other 4 raqs (some of them overloaded) and still not using full memory or swap.....so I am lost....

Any help?

I don't see anything seriously wrong with that. Linux will use most of available memory *in a clever way* to cache frequently accessed programs and files in order to optimize performace, theres no point having 512MB RAM if you're not going to use most of it.

WebHostingTalk's server used roughly the same memory and swap even before we transferred the DNS.

Mem: 517032K av, 467864K used, 49168K free, 93456K shrd, 35400K buff
Swap: 265032K av, 3232K used, 261800K free 236380K cached

Don't worry about it. Its the load averages and CPU statistics that are more important and they look excellent.
