Guys,

Check out these things we call modern art.
I can't believe they were featured in one of the famous museum in here.

Where was that first photo taken ? It looks like a basketball stadiums.
The light wasn't that good I couldn't actually see any 'art' on display.

What is Art?

What is a creation of a person's view of the world. The way they percieve it. I think those pictures were awesome!

Hey, if you can take a box, and call it art, and make a few bucks off of it. More power to ya..

*Goes to get recycling bins from street* I was sitting on a goldmine all this time..

Yes well that second "work of art" or drug induced hallucination looks like the sensor thingy ma bobs they have at the door ways of departments store. You know the ones that sound an alarm if you accidently attempted to remove products past it.

Yap, modern art is what broke the beatles. Yoko wanted to take them to a strange new place in music... :bawling:

(bah! don't mind me, I just remembered a simpsons show I saw a few days ago. :))

Wasn't that when they broke into windows displays and staged a "love-in" in a department store, if memory serves me correctly.

At least it has more creativity to it than boxes and newspapers.

what utter cack!!!

someone may remember this but a few years ago an experiment was done with 'art'

it went like this, a huge canvas was laid on the floor and an elephant was given a bike with no tyres and a load of different paints. It went on to rub the hell out of the canvas with the bike after dragging it through the paint, it then stood in the paint and walked to its grub then back again putting footprints all over it....

now it gets good, then some pretend 'Art experts' went to a few gallerys and showed this master peice off, they told the audience it was done by someone that is just starting out and had immence tallent also that their work had already sold for in excess of £20,000. Now you could listen as the 'art lovers and experts in the audience' OOhhh'd and arrrrr'd and said how great it was with its lines and depth of meaning and some other bowlox they spout.

then at the end loads of them started offering money for this peice of scuz, and get this when they were told that they had been had and an elephant had done it and that basicaly they were all pompous prats that had more money than sense they said 'oh no the elephant is a great artist what we said is true'

truely amazing i tell you, i am seriously thinking about hanging one of my steaming piles on the wall of the tate and selling it as 'Modern living' for a few grand........

The commentary was enjoyable, my favorite below, regarding the wooden boxes.

Wooden boxes! Notice the artsy fartsy type standing in the middle, admiring this work of art, contemplating the eternal truth of the wooden box, and how it reflects his own life, trapped, in this vast universe of wooden boxes.

Well any homeless people can now have a solution to bring them out of poverty. They can declare the cardboards they are sleeping on as modern art and sell em to innocent passer by.
Hey after all it is how a person perceive it right?

I really can't stand "modern art" ... Or society in general, anymore... Wish we went back to simpler times when SKILL was rewarded, and great artists' work was appreciated after they died :P

Oh well, what do you expect from a society that thinks acting like a complete moron (Jackass) is cool?

Maybe the rumor I heard was true, humans ARE getting less intelligent and it can be proved by science; by looking at our DNA/evolutionary path… Maybe this is how the dinosaurs died – maybe they were really intelligent at one time, but eventually started to do stupid stuff for attention, and called cardboard boxes “art” – until they were SO stupid, all they could do is eat each other.

Eh…

Thats your theory on how dinosaurs died?
Well you must be right then! "people" are getting stupid...

Very subjective. personally I have never considered the average person as being all that bright to start with.

I always love hearing about art museum janitors cleaning up a pile of trash that was left lying around only to be reprimanded for throwing away a high value artistic creation.

Actually, I'm of the same opinion.
"people" are not getting dumber... get my point?

I don't see why this is less credible than the meteorite theory where they explain how SUDDENLY a meteorite abolished all lifeform. Why don't suggest SUDDENLY one fine day the dinosaurs' IQ dropped by 99% and they realised they were to dumb to survive so they all agree on mass suicide.

:topic:

Err... I meant over time.

And the meteorite theory may not be true  - dinosaurs turned into birds! lol :P

Anyways, pretty sad to see stuff in art galleries, that would be considered trash anywhere else.

I can understand "Raw human emotion" - but how exactly does a box show that? The fact that the person who made it is faceless and just like everyone else?
