I'm curious....

Whenever I visit this site I always take a quick peek a who is online:rolleyes:

Now more often than not there are 1/3 member and 2/3 guests on the boards.

Now its killing me to find out if all these guests are people looking for a hosting provider, or if they are looking to become hosts themselves in the near future.

I realise it is purely speculation, but does anyone have any opinions. And don't worry, this thread is not asking 437 guests to join simply to answer my question.:D

Sometimes we are here but actually were are not. Not much reason for some to login if they just want to read. Also some people may be at other jobs, using a public computer, or sharing a computer and don't wish to login either because they don;t want to be spyed and/or afraid that they may forget to logout. Sometimes people are guest because they dont want to be seen and bothered.

Good point, I guess I thought that if someone was a member of the forums, they'd be logged in whenever they visit.

So maybe a high proportion of these so called "guests", are actually members in disguise. Who knows?

And sometimes, 'guests' are actually googlebot, and his band of merry men :D

I just read a survey somewhere (forget where offhand - it'll come to me when I'm away from the pc) and of internet-users a full 50% or so do nothing but browse online. That is to say, they don't make webpages, write in forums or blogs, or anything else like that.

Betcha we have a group of them that does just that here ;)

50% just browse around without interacting at all. WOW.

I guess that makes sense though. Its cheaper than a movie, more informative than TV and the only effort required is the clicking of a mouse.

Gee, come to think of it, thats sounding mighty fun. I might just pop out the  , grab a . and become a fulltime armchair browser too.

Actually a lot of those guests are bots. Not just google bots. I am sure I saw a post somewhere before with some numbers. Just can't remember where.

Some people are just voyeurs 'just like to watch', other people are a bit intimidated by posting.

Phew!

I know I browsed well before I joined. Not because I was looking for a host or wanting to become one, but in case you haven't noticed, there are other areas of interest to non hosting folks :)

i would say out of the 50% people you will find 90% of them on adult sites :)

Well other than here and a few other forums I tend to do little more than browse so elsewhere I'd probably be one of those 'guests'.

Google normally only has a few bots on WHT at a time anymore.. Also I pick up most common spiders and bots and most of the guests currently on are normal browsing guests...
